Headlight switch illumination not working- bulb ok
« on: 05 July 2009, 15:29:52 »

I've notice the headlight switch illumination is not working - I've taken the cluster out and replaced the bulb, but still no joy!

The filament on the bulbs looks fine, and have checked there is a circuit etc, but still no joy.

The contacts in the unit are clean, and the bulb contacts are set correctly so Im at a loss  :o

Has anyone else had this problem, and found a suitable solution please?

Just when I thought I'd got the old girl sorted!

Hi Proz

Thanks for the heads up, but the problem persists even with the engine running  :-[

Yup I have this problem too on my Elite which is a pre-Facelift if that helps. I have tried different bulbs, had the unit out & cleaned contacts & still doesn't want to know. The lights in the fog switches & level & dash illumination dials work but the main switch just plainly refuses!

You're not the only one... ::)

Good to know Im not going mad!!!  :D Mine did exactly the same (mini facelift) with the fog light switches etc being illuminated, and they have gone dark too!

Short of taking the whole unit apart (which I dont particularly want to do coz I doubt it will go back together again!) Im stumped!

mmm, never realised that it lit up but guess it makes sense....
so my facelift Elite doesn't light up, nor the foglight switches or the sunroof - boo !
Must get round to looking at these, then !  ::)

Just fitted a new bulb (£2.84 from Vauxhall) and have the dim dial light and level light working but Off Side and Dipped still dark.

Can everyone tonight check to see if these do actually light up? :-)

This is really strange.
One bulb should light up the whole unit.
The thing when one side is lit up and the other isn't seems like something is blocking the light rom inside.
Also one thing you can try if new bulb isnt lit when placef.
Rotate it a little more cause I believe polarity of the bulb can be an issue here

hmm, I always thought that the induvidual switches had their own bulbs in them & the headlight switch bulb just illuminated the healight symbols above the switch.

Upon closer inspection, the fog light switches & the symbols for the adjuster dials are all illuminated but the main headlight switch & the symbols above it are not lit up.  :(

Mine work OK, but I would change the switch, cheap enough off here, all our breakers are in a position to test them first, better than a gamble on ebay.
