Power Sounder . . . . Alarm ???
« on: 22 June 2009, 19:14:18 »

Have read
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1245274160/7#7
and just in case
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1220198611

Came home last night (Sunday) about 7pm and no probs.
Step-Son come home about 8 and said my alarm was
going off, but no noise ?!?
Sure enough the Indicators were flashing but no noise.
OTHER than a little muted squeeking from bonnet-ish.
Opened/closed and no more all last night......

Drove to work this morning, parked and locked no probs.
About hour later lads at work said "lights flashing, but no
noise" . . . . same thing again !(squeeking even quieter)
Opened/closed, kept eye on car all day . . no more flashing.

Could this be the PS running low, but, having a tiny charge
on way home/work so it then sets off but not enough
charge to set off twice (if you see what i mean ?!)

I haven't actually tested the normal alarm (perhaps leave window
open inch then arm then wave hand inside ???)

The normal horn works fine.

Does the normal alarm use the normal horn OR the PS horn ?

I'm waiting to see if it does it again tonite out there now !!

Fats :(

ps. Sorry, IF i disconnect the PS or take it out, does the alarm
still work (hence it MUST use the normal horn ???)

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?  ??

If you locate the power sounder under the skuttle on the drivers side there is a seperate horn next to it. This is not the normal horn, that is under the passenger side of the front bumper. The alarm will work silently if both are unplugged. A new power sounder isn't that expensive on the TC from VX :y

So, the normal alarm uses the Power Sounder's horn ?

Didn't trip tonite (touch wood) so either the PS has died
completely this time, or, it's got a teensy more charge
into it ?!?!?!?

OR, it wasn't that in the first place  :-/

No, when you get to the power sounder you'll see it and a seperate horn for the alarm. Both under the drivers side windscreen wiper and under the skuttle.

Well, hasn't gone off the past 2 days ?!? So i think i'll try the
alarm during today and then try disconnecting the PS tonite.

That'll let me know if the alarm works before/after.
AND if the slight squeek was because the PS is so flat, then,
it shouldn't make much noise when i take it OFF ! ! ! (?) :-?

The power sounder batteries are known to leak, but easily replaced and any corrosion can be easily rectified - I think that there is even a "how to" on here somewhere.

However, I am a bit alarmed (excuse the pun) by those of you who simply say unplug it, its not needed. Well it may not be needed for the car, but many insurance assessors are also familiar with the practice of this removal and it can often render an insurance policy null and void if the alarm has been tampered with. Its just happened to a guy in a bodyshop down the road with an Omega - Assessor has just been to view the car and invalidated his policy and subsequent claim on the spot as his policy stated that he had the factory fit alarm.

be carefull !  :-X

i dont want to hijack this thread but my old bus doesnt have a sounder, so i picked one up yesterday but cant find the wiring for it anywhere, not only that but the mounting bracket isnt there either, were there some early models that didnt have a sounder or have i got to keep hunting for the wires? :-/ ive got the ordinary type horn in the scuttle though.

You don`t state in your profile if you have an estate or saloon. I have a X reg 2001 elite estate and on the rear quarter lights i have a printed circuit with two connections with "alarm" printed on the glass. One of the nearside quarterlight connections had come adrift and caused my alarm to keep going off. Took me a while to spot it. :y

Been rading this tread with interest as the very same has happened to my TD estate.
Yesterday used the estate for the first time in around ten days, taking some recyling stuff to the local depot.
Now last night just as I was getting ready for work the hazards started flashing only (I know the power sounder is dead) but for what reason caused the lights to start flashing. Anyway it did it once more around five minutes later then I believe never again, don't know as I was at work by then.
Have also checked today as mentioned above about the wiring on the rear side glass, they are intact so is the bonnet switch. Rocked the car quite hard and only this sets the alarm off, obviously without sounding the horn .So why all of a sudden does this happen, then ok?
Should the alarm set off the PS horn only, or the main horn as well, I'm a little confused.

Ah having now read the above links in this thread I think a new PS pack is needed to cure the problem.

Just disconnecting or not even bothering to replace may invalidate your insurance, good call Dave DND.
