replace speakers?
« on: 26 September 2009, 20:58:30 »

Well I now have more than one speaker blown, the drivers door speaker and the one on the parcel shelf is on its last legs.

Is it worth replacing with better after market speakers, or should I stick with the vauxhall ones?  I do like a lot of bass and I turn it up when the wife is not in the car  :y

if not bose, then upgrade i guess? But depends how long the vx ones are likely to last and how much aftermarket one cost maybe? Would think plenty vx ones available from breakers?

Yeah sorry should have said.  Its the standard sound system.  I have seen some 3-way replacements which should do the job for not too much brass, but I am wondering if I should go whole hog and install an amp with full suite?

I think you might find fronts are 16.5 cm or 6.5 in and rears are 13 cm or 5.25 in. fronts will need a adaptor to mount the speakers  the rears need some form of spacer as you cant buy a adaptor for the rear doors.
You might also want to use dynamat to line the doors to stop vibartions and rattles if you are gonna use an amp.
Personally i would replace the fronts with a good set of componants ive used Vibe the rear shelf speakers are the same size as the front doors and you could use a set of co-axil speakers.
If you are going to amp all speakers sound deaden the rearshelf with dynamat
hope this helps if you need further help DaveDnD on here is very helpful and extreamlly knollagable on car systems

For the front door you need component speakers (6.5) and adapters in order to mount them ( I have MacAudio premium 2.16, really cheap and quite powerfull) On the parcel shelf I presume you also have 6.5 speakers (just buy standard 6.5 which are always way cheaper than components). forget the rear doors no point in putting anything there since you have speakers on the parcel shelf ( you have nowhere to connect them anyway without the amp and they are too small for anything except mid and high frequency tone).
Gofor the aftermarket speakers cause they're new and sound will definitely be way better than Vauxhall ones which are simply too old and ready for retirement.

when i did the rear doors on my 99 cdx i couldnt find any adaptors so made my own from 9mm mdf and managed to get 6.5 componants in relocated the tweeters to mid door sound deadened all doors and rear shelf ive got vibe speakers all round plus 2 12in subs in the boot running 2 amps 1 4 channel genisis for the door speakers and 1 vibe black box 2 sub ampfor the subs, rewired all speakers mounted the genisis amp where the cd changer should be rear right in boot and the vibe amp and power cap left hand side of boot between spare wheel and seat back used 0 gauge cable from battery to boot 2 runs down the passengers side 1 for each amp earthed amps seperatly head unit is a alpine multi-media with seperate brain mounted under rear shelf in car with cables to the amps going threw the shelf threw gromets also have a cd changer, dvdchanger, satnav, bluetooth phone interface a big differace compared to standard all units hidden around the car stealth was a priority when i did the car.

i will try and get some of the pics of the shelf and the underside and post them on here i did do a photo dairy of the install for the insurance so i could get it all insured properly also needed a report to state the power and earth cables would not pose a risk of fire.

I took pics of every stage running the cables, mounting the units, rewiring the doors, removing the shelf, mounting the speakers etc if you let me know which ones you want i could email them over the weekend to you :y :y

just need the pics of the rear parcel shelf, TheBoy sent me some but would definitely like to see some more. I'm sick and tired of lousy rear door speakers (actually have good kenwood components there but they're simply too small)
if you need my mail il page with it.
Thanks

just sortin the pics out for you should be able to put them on today.
The rear doors will take 6.5 speakers you just need to fabricate spacers, you also need to use slim fit speakers as you need to build the spacers out about 45-50 mm and i must stress that sound deadening the doors is essential to get good mid bass and treable levels

Omegadan is your mig facelift or prefacelift?
Cause mine is facelift and as I recall there is no way the rear doors will take 6.5 speakers. Actually doors arent the problem. Door cards are
