faulty alarm?
« on: 17 September 2009, 18:29:58 »

Hi folks Ive just finished changing my oil cooler which took a few weeks to do (due to work) all this time the battery has been disconnected. When I reconnected it the alarm sounded and I turned the key 4 times (fob not working). Everytime I lock it then unlock it the alarm sounds,  has anybody got any ideas what could be wrong. Thanks for your time Andy

A bent bonnet sensor probably.  ;) It often gets bent over when you have anything to do under thebonnet, so the bonnet doesn't push the plunger down properly leaving the alarm thinking the bonnet is open. Bend it straight! Or isconnect the plug from underneath it and see what happens.

Thanks for your reply,

We have tried the bonnet catch and the problem still persists, we can set the alarm and the intruder indicator flashes, we unlock the car and all is well, only when we open the door the alarm sounds.

The key fob doesnt work so we are unlocking using the key in the door, how does the alarm unset using the key ?

Can anyone help as my neighbours are getting very annoyed !!

Thanks Andy,

unfortunately, using the key will set the alarm off every time.

unless, you dont alarm the car when you lock it....by using door press buttons instead of locking with the key.

be careful not to lock yourself out though.

Is this a saloon or estate?

to confirm....does the alarm go off on its own accord, or just when you use the key to open the car?

Thanks for your response,

The car is a X 2.6 Saloon, We are not using the keyfob at all, what we have done is :

Lock the car using the key, open the car with the key, no alarm noise/indicators, open the car door and the alarm goes off, to silence the alarm we are shutting the door and from the outside repeatidly locking/unlocking the door, the alarm sound stops and but the indicators continue to flash, the stop after about 5 mins, the alarm sounds when opening the door and only stops when the engine is started.

Would I be correct in assuming the alarm is setting fine but not disarming hence the alarm going off ?

Thanks Andy.

to stop the alarm......

open door with key....then get the key to the ignition and start it as fast as you can.

sounds like the alarm is operating correctly.

dunno what the key in the door is doing afterwards, I suspect nothing.

starting the car is the way to turn off the alarm.

Now....whats wrong with the fob, that is how to fix your issue properly...

Thanks for your response again, we will look into getting the key fob fixed/replaced and hopefully that will cure it.

it may need resolding, or the button needs changing, some times abit of switch cleaner will fix it. :y
