Are you taking it out, and replacing it....

or leaving it out?

iirc following the replace your glovebox handle guide covers getting the glovebox out, which I think would leave you enough room to get the airbag out.

make sure all power is, and has been off for 10 minutes for safety sake.

if you are leaving it out, a resistor of some sort will fool the ecu.
be aware of insurance repurcussions though.
if not, reassemble, reconnect power, and the system will never know it was gone, so no airbag light.

disconect the battery and leve the car for half hour so that the power in the air bags dose not go off when removing, then open gluve box un screw the 3 trox bolts at the top of the glove box inside, then undo the 2 screws that hold the glove box at the bottom, then pull the frunt skin up that is over the air bag and unscrew the 2 screws to the glove box remove glove box and wires, then you can remove the air bag. but becareful when pulling it out as can still go off if droped. and they hurt when they do.

That's pretty much it but with a couple of additions... You need to remove the passenger side doot vent to get the glovebox out. If you want to remove the airbag cover (section of dash above the glovebox) then there is a 5mm allen key under the top edge if you look from where the passenger vent was. Unscrew it and pull it out, then the cover just lifts off

i got mine out the way i said, only thing was droped the airbag,(BANG) went off but at least it was out side the car.

Also remember that when placing the airbag to one side / storage / on the bench etc, to always place it with the airbag facing upwards and not downwards.

This is so that if it does go off (and they can) that you only get an airbag exploding and not the whole unit being propelled across the workshop like a missile.

can u go more into detail about the resistor u all have been so helpful

Think GM state 1 min - the controllers in each bag then shut down, putting a short across themselves.

Mr Haynes suggests there are 4 screws holding the glove box in. My 99 miniface lift has 5, like face lift cars.
Obviously right hand drive, assume that LHD Catera is a mirror image.  :-/
