Hi, I have a 1999 2.5v6 cdx estate, which some kind person wrote off in a car park and left without leaving details! The radio is the 700 with a multi changer in the back. My replacement is a 1999 cd version. I was wondering if I could take the head unit and multichanger out and use it in the new one?

should swap right over, may need to take out the wire for the cd changer.

You mean the CCRT700? The one with a phone?
It''s not just a straight swap. The MID/GID displays are completely different from each other and not compatable with each other. It's possible to do the swap but you need the loom to the radio & screen & the microphone in the courtesy light.
The Boy can give more precise details.

Thanks for your quick replies. It has got the phone so I may just leave it all in and get a nice new up to date unit with the latest gizmos built in.

As Andy B says, the CCRT700 is far from a straight swap.  You will need:

CCRT700
CDC2 (ccrt700 version of cdc2 is unique)
MID (ccrt700 MID is unique)
Courtesy Light incorporating mic
As long a length of loom from the back of radio as possible

And about 4hrs to retrofit it all.

It might actually be a lot worse than that TBH.

The easy way to tell is if you remove the drivers side kick panel and there is a multiway connector bridging the alarm/CL ecu, it will have a plug with 8 single wires looping back. If you have it then its as the others have said.

If its not there then the job becomes very very very difficult indeed as the wiring harness is different.

I speak from experience as I had this problem with my car a '99 MY CD estate. If you have a CDX or MV6 then you will be ok.

The solution to the problem was that I made up a new loom using parts and a donor vehicle loom from a breakers. It took me about 2 days solid work and much of the work had to be done in situ.

If you are experienced with electricals and have the time to spare then it can be done. I took the opportunity to go for a Bose install at the same time.
