DIS-pack modification
« on: 05 December 2009, 17:57:17 »

Hello all :)

With a reference to my thread about swapping X25XE to a Y26SE, http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1258771447, I'm thinking of leaving the standard X25XE DIS-pack and use the stock Y26SE coilpacks.

I don't see any huge problems doing this, but I'm looking for pinouts for the coilpacks on the Y26SE. My Haynes manual doesn't cover the facelift Omegas, so if anyone have any info I'd love to hear it  :)

I don't have the original connectors for the coils so I think I'll just solder wires to the pins and fill it with hot melt glue to seal it. Using these coils would save me the trouble with replacing cam covers and eventually faulty plug leads. I know I have to fire two and two cylinders in parrallel (waste spark like the DIS-pack), but still, I think it's an improvement.

The X25XE coils in the DIS will fire twice per revolution.  The Y26SE coils will fire once.

The X25XE ECU currently fires three coils (of unknown impedence/resistance/reactance).

The Y25SE ECU fires six coils (of unknown impedence/resistance/reactance).

What I can't predict is how the X25XE ECU will react if two coils are connected in parallel to each ignition output. I also can't predict whether the Y26SE coils will cope with firing twice as often as they were designed for.

The latter is likely to be the biggest issue, the max cycle time will be related to the amount of iron used and a faster cycle time will require more currant and hence the primary winding may also be larger on the DIS solution....the result could be poor spark at high revs and maybe even the coils primary burning out.
