"Automatic Gearbox" Warning Display
« on: 27 November 2009, 20:49:20 »

Hello all
I have an intermittant check automatic gearbox display on the panel. It does come on nearly all the time!
I took the car to a gearbox garage & they told me that the box was ok but there was a fault in the wiring & they could not clear it. I would have to go to vauxall. (I think he used tech 2)
So when I try to kickdown the car tries then goes slow, is this because the car thinks there is a gearbox fault & running on safe mode???????????????

All this electronic stuff on cars is new to me (used to firenza's & viva's) I am an electrical engineer though, so can fault find etc
Do I need to get the fault cleared to get the car gearbox to run properly?????
Thanks
Paul (2.2 petrol cdx w reg facelift) :(

does it rev over 4k rpm? You really need to get the codes read. PM TheBoy for his tech2 services, we are just down the road in Brackley. Its likely the selector switch is causing problems, which is usually fixed by a good clean  :)

Just as a tip.
I turn the ignition on, but before starting I cycle the selector lever between park and 1st a couple of times. It seems to clear the problem for a while.
Bu66ered if after doing rocker gaskets and cambelt I am getting underneath the car this side of chrimbo  ;D
