Reason i am asking is im looking at a cat D x reg clit 1.6 (2001). I know all about the categories etc just not impact on values - if any.

Its got 80k on the clock, v5 present, full dealer history and good MOT.

Bit of speculation on my part tht it could be mine for £800.

Now it needs a bonnet, headlight and radiator only - i reckon £300 -£400 puts it right.

Book price is around £2200 for this model and similar model cars on `trader going around that. My only concern is the amount, if any, of my £800 profit is taken away by the vehicle cat D....

i would take photos of the damage before repairing,so that any future buyer could see that it hadnt been rebuilt from a total wreck :y

Your costing is about right. I always reconed it should cost about half the bottom book value to buy a write off and the bits to repair. If as Albitz said, you take plenty photos to show its not the dreaded "cut and shut", and give a good discount then the buyer should be happy. You might not make the 800, but 400-500 in the hand is not to be sneezed at. A couple of years ago, a 2.2 petrol Omega was worth about £4000-£5000, mine with the "cosmetically challanged" paintwork cost about £2500.

PS, Simpsons Salvage http://www.simpsonsalvage.com/site/pages/page_slist.php?PHPSESSID=e8f7af163cd76830ed8336c3b90b435a&t=B&makemodel=Renault&fueltype=any&catcode=&trans=%25&pics=pics&orderby=MakeModel&date_filter=3&Submit=Browse
have a fair number of clit's in, a lot of them unfortunately have frontal damage. Must be the drivers checking their hair in the mirror and running into the car in front  ;D ;D

I wonder, some breakers do mail order, you might get the bits sent up for a reasonable price.
