hmm, they are steep, buti've seen the pioneer single din work, albeit with chaviola slide out pop up screen single din effort, and its functions seems very impressive, but tend to agree, anything other than the original range of head units looks pants in most cars.

re the omega and presumably most exec cars, the perfect solution does not exist, and probably wont unless the likes of e.g. tom tom, if thats your flavour, start designing their software into nav enabled head unit for car makers. Aftermarket Head units will never be able to integrate with all functions on all cars......afaik?

Certainly re my Elite, as TB and Dave will probably sigh with boardom, its quite frustraing imo to have such a fully integrated built in system with fairly vital check controle functions/bose/cid idealy placed high in the dash/ nav/ phone etc which was not developed as well, or as far as it could have been...its just too old concidering when the design process started i guess. Certainly parts are an issue if it goes wrong as lazers are hard to find for 2013 and 2015. Replacing it would mean major surgery, loosing cid, loads of cash and loose the integration which is probably its best feature

I'm sure TB will guide you with whats possible at reasonable cost.....

......but i wonder what Dave would fit in his non omega car given the cash, and how that would compare to what TB would fit given whats possible on the omega (2.2 in your case)....

Pop into your local Toyota dealer and have a look at the top of the range Yaris (I think it was) :-/ :-/ Had a tTom Tom built into the head unit 18 months ago when I was first looking for SWMBO

But it looked ugly, as it was a Tom Tom unit stuffed into a hole in the HU

Is the NCDR1500 the colour screen jobby?

Not aware of that head unit, do you mean NCDC 2015? - The headunit actually has nothing to do with the type of display, you need a CID for colour display which needs to be de-paired and set in delivery mode to be paired to a new head unit

You mean the NCDR1500 as fitted to my prefacelift

All NCDC201x and NCDR1x00 can drive either the mon GID or colour CID, just needs to be correctly depaired/repaired.



chrisgixer - Siemens system and TomTom are about the same featurewise for satnav (unless you want the gay voices such as Ozzie) - TT Traffic does work, but quite an expensive subscription for a poor service, and you get raped for GPRS charges.  Its sad in the UK that the implementer wanted to charge for it, but thats life, get over it, and its hardly an issue tbh.

The maps are similar - TT uses Teleatlas (seeing as TT own Teleatlas), Siemens uses Navteq. Both respectable mapping companies, both very accurate and generally pretty up to date.

Aye? Features will be "basically" the same its a sat nav, thats just it though, basic. And when was data ever expensive?  Data is free with a half decent contract, large add on bundles  are a couple of quid.

iPhone version is no different to the very old Pocket PC version i use, has a few more bells and whistles, but basic nav is the same.

Speaking of iPhone i might have been put on the trial of them at work

I've put the 03 disc back in now to save the laser. It doesnt have tmc at all bar a few greyed out menu options.

Which reminds me. These head units dont like re writeable media mp3 cdr's and the like, which cause premature laser failure.

I def think tt on a mobile media device of your choice is the way to go with mobile nav software. Be it gay phone or whatever "bill gates lick dick product" your into.

Just hope i can find a version that will work on the n900 if they ever release it on a network.

Reasonably deep. But being just before xmas i cant reach the small change at the bottom of them at the moment.

But i'm very glad to hear i'm wrong. Which head unit will work and display via a colour screen high in the dash, with check controle, and bose? ....and no can bus(except to cid)no idea what can bus is by the way.

I don't think it prevents modifications. The Omega is described as a half CAN car because two little CAN buses were added to the later cars (1. from the ECU to the OBD socket {I think} and 2. for the GID/CID in cars equipped with satnav)

If you have a full CAN car you need to talk CAN to know when the backlighting should be on and to pick up a speed signal. Once you have full CAN all sorts of things become possible through programming. As DaveDND says it is a question of money.

If you don't have a full CAN car then you can connect up just about anything made since cars became neagitive earth with a bit of inginuity (and lots of wires)

Poor compared to what would you say? Other portables, other mobiles or in car which it world be worse obviously. May or may not be worth a bluetooth gps device? They still drop out though, as they do.
I guess if its using a surf star 3 chip set then its as good as it gets....?
