Electrical Gremlins!!
« on: 14 December 2009, 19:11:46 »

My 3.0l est was a 2.5 Auto originally and was changed to a 3.0l manual before I took ownership.  About 3 weeks after I got it the reverse lights kept poppoing a fuse, so I did the naughty and fitted a heavier duty fuse and now I have no reverse lights at all.  The bulbs are fine, but I havent tested the switch yet.

Also, not that I believe it is linked, but I fitted a leather interior and now the drivers front seat seems to pop fuse 14 after the seat has been on for a while.

Can anyone help?

you may of burnt out a wire or two behind the fuse box, would also check behind the glove box as main wire come into the fuse box from that side.

Well, the reverse light wiring will have been hacked about to convert to manual so I would have a look around the gearbox and see what's happened there. Fingers crossed fitting a bigger fuse hasn't caused any further damage.

I had burnt out the switch it seems, replaced it, worked for a while but then started popiing fuses again.  After doing a bit of investigation I have found the following:

No front cigar lighter, this has been replaced with a switch for turing the engine fans on incase of paranoia by the previous owner, I suffer from this Vauxhall Paranoia as well always worried that the fans wont come on them selves!!  LOL

I have recently fitted new leather interior with full electrice seats which where wired in by a professional Auto spark

Fuses 14 and 15 are in the cigar lighter circuit and the seat circuits, fuse 14 keeps popping, after a short time when I switch on the drivers fron heated seat, but none of the other seats

The car was originally an automatic but is now a manual using the proper wiring looms and fuse 9 keeps popping when I put her in reverse, but fuse 15 stays intact

So, HELP!!!  It seems to be related to the front drivers seat as far as I can tell as all were working fine before it went in.  The old cloth heated seat and reverse lights worked fine, so I am wondering if I have a short in the drivers seat?

Seem to recall another member ascertained dodgy connection @ driver`s seat during certain driving/direction manoeuvres. Disconnect feed to driver`s heat pad then try it
