NCDC 2013 won't eject navigation disc.
« on: 24 January 2010, 20:25:35 »

I bought my omega elite today and it has sant nav built into the stereo via a cd, problem is, i put the cd in and nothing happened, it doesn't read, but i can't eject it. Is there a reset button or anything to get the disc back out?

Thanks in advance

ok, holding the clear button reset the stereo, but didn't eject the disc, so i dismantled it and managed to get the disc out. It doesn't appear to be reading the disc when it is in there. On the GID display, it says NAVI INACTIVE, does anyone know what that means?

Navi will be inactive until you enter a destination and make it active.

Ah, that makes sense, but i take it i can't enter a destination if its not recognising that the disc is in there?

Correct!

Usually if the unit can't read the disc it will spit it out so it sounds more of a mechanical issue:-/

Does it spin the disk for a second, then claim no cd? If so, laser failed.  Otherwise, mechanical I'd say (assuming in pulls the disks in itself (if not, check sensor on top of cd slot))

It pulls the disc in on its own, and spins it permanentely, not just for a few seconds, occasionally, the screen changes to 'please wait' but doesn't seem to get any further.

If you are using a genuine Nav disc, then you laser may be at the end of its tolerance / life

Detecting the disk OK, but struggling to read it. If its a genuine disk thats fairly scratch free, then the laser is dying.

Its a genuine disk, without a scratch on it, so its almost cerntainly the laser. Can this be repaired by a normal radio repair shop?

Probably not, due to lack of parts available.  I think VXLV6 found a source for a small number of top cd uits...

Philips Car Audio ceased trading nearly ten years ago - spares are very few and far between now.

This happened in my car when I first got it, just ran a cleaner CD through it a few times (back and forward across tracks 1 & 2 half-a-dozen times.). Started working OK after that.

I'm not that fussed about it to be honest, the map CD I got with the car is the 2001 original so it will be somewhat out of date. I prefer my Navigo sat-nav anyway.

Just occasionally, when playing an audio CD in the single slot, it throws a wobbly and stops playing then skips to the next tracks after 10-20 seconds. When it finally dies I will probably just use the 4-disc magazine.
