How do you replce side light bulbs?
« on: 26 January 2010, 14:12:12 »

How do you replce side light bulbs? I looked behind the head light, saw the wiring connector and disconnected it and couldn't see how to get the bulb out. I could see some feasability of removing the headlamp lense but it just seems a little excessive to remove a blown bulb! Can anybody help?

you should be able to squeeze a hand in, remove protective rubber, and remove the connector and pull the bulb out.

OR in my case..call the RAC out.

ALL the bulbs ???   Why do they make them so bloody hard to get at ?

Were the lighting clusters designed on the basis that you'd always have a small, extremely clever and willing 6 year old with very small arms, hands and fingers standing by ??

You all need a go at changing the driver's side light on a Smart Roadster.  :y  :y  :y

Nope, I`ll top that one with a VW Beetle - try doing that one in the cold without breaking off the headlight release ring

Renult Megan the front wheel needs to come off, hatch is in the wheel arch lining.

That said Omega bulbs last very well, in 5 years only 1 dipped bulb has blown. Seen 2008 plate Mercs/Fords with blubs blown

Ok, although, not a headlight replacement, can anyone better then the FOUR FIGURE SUM required to remove the bodyshell on a Lotus R340 so that the battery can be changed

I used to wonder why so many lazy "people" drove around with lights out.....and then had a go a 2006 Megane and a  2003 Superb.

There are so many regualtions about cars, why not a useful one about making bulbs easy to change, with a kit standard in the car?

At least 30% of the cars on my drive home have one or more lights out-my favourite being the one headlight, one foglight combo  :-?

Its all these pedestrian safe high bumbers and rubbish, causes things like basic tasks to be impossible.

I demonstrated (which some satisfaction i may add) i could change the dipped bulb in under 5 mins on my 2.2, but a local garage told my boss to take his Megan to a main dealer for the job  ;D ;D ;D

My favourite is re-setting the dip by just flicking the switch in the ferry queue  ;D

Am I just being cynical or is it just another way for garages to make money out of us non mechanical types. I spent at least 4 hours trying to replace an O/S/F bulb on a Ka once after breaking the bulb holder I swore and gave up. Ended up being charged something like £4.50 for the bulb and £45 for an hours labour. Bl**dy infuriating. On the other hand best car I had for bulb changing was a Volvo S60 easy peasy?
