Hi All,

Right I'm fed up of having no speedo and no PAS, so I'm going to attempt to change my ABS ECU.

Could someone tell me how the large round connectors behind the battery detach, I don't want to force them, but can't see how the come off.

The ring unscrews about 90 degrees from memory, then lift plug out.

Obviously disconnect battery

 I found the plastic tray they fit into could be removed from the battery tray by undoing a screw or two. Then the whole lot can be moved far enough out of the way without disturbing the connectors themselves.

... and I recommend one of these for getting onto the fixing screws. An absolute godsend for this job.

HELP! is there anybody local who could give me a hand, I've got the rad hose, electrical connectors etc off, I've got the top two screws out but the clasp holding the connector to the modulator is stuck fast and I'm out of idea's.

Do you mean the electrical plug?  If so slip a knife blade down between plug end and ecu and waggle gently - a bit of lubricant may help (I know its not a lubricant by try wd40) - and plug lock will eventually move towards wing.  Then plug can be easily disconnected.

Thanks Dbug, I made up a right angled jig to prise it out, that and some needlenose molegrips.

Unfortuately I am still stuck, as I just cannot get to the last 3 bolts.

I found using that 90 degree angle drive with an extension on it would just about get there. I loosened the union on the top of the PAS pump and swivelled that "u" shaped connector forward to get the power steering hose out of the way.

It's a total batsrad getting to those screws but I managed it in the end.

I have heard that the bracket holding the ABS module can be loosened and the unit carefully swivelled upwards by bending the brake lines a little. I didn't need to do this myself but it might be worth bearing in mind. It was mentioned in general help in the last few days.
