Is it possible to fit some sort of sound warning device i.e. buzzer, to sound when the Coolant Overheat Indicator illuminates? My indicator is hidden by my hand on the wheel & this has possibly contributed to my recent Head Gasket failure. :-?

Yes Tunnie, the red indicator that comes on when the temperature reaches the danger zone

Hummm its just a temp sender from the engine, one of the electronic experts would know more, but it should never over heat  :-/

Yes Tunnie, I appreciate that, but when your car develops an overheating fault for whatever reason, as mine did, an audible  warning with the visual red indicator would have alerted me instantly & possibly saved my head warping?

It's a good idea.  It could be done fairly easily with a bit of 'tronics.  You could also have it triggered by coolant level going low if your exp. tank has that sensor.  I'm assuming that the latter doesn't already give an audible warning, but I don't know as ours doesn't have the sensor.

In the meantime, how about a suitably-angled mirror fixed so you can see the temperature gauge 'round' your hand?

you do have to "peer" a bit under the steering wheel to see the temp/petrol gauges, i think an audible alarm would be a good idea, there is one to tell you your lights are on when you open the door so why not for something really important?  :-/

Hmmm, the Omega dash, like any dash, is designed to be entirely visible when driving  :-/

I certainly have no issue seeing all of the instruments, with the exception of the bottom right of the CID (where the clock is!)

You're not exactly what you'd call tall though Jamie!    As said before, I'd like my seat to go a little further down so I can see the top of my clocks. I have a tilt column but if I poisition it where I like the wheel I can't see the clocks properly or if I can see the top of the clocks the wheel isn't where I'd like.

Frequently had the tractor seat almost as high as it would go (if she'd been using car, seeing as she is a shortarse), still never had an issue  :-/

But to OP, temp feed comes from sensor on coolant bridge. Should be easy enough to knock something up, but ensure the circuit is very high impedence so as not to affect the gauge readings

I would add that by the time the gauge has gone into red, you're probably in the realms of 'too late', much the same way as the oil light

Mine's normally at one notch/click back from fully tilted towards you.

If the red warning light is an incandescant lamp a piezo electronic buzzer could probably be wired in parallel, and stuck to the back of the instrument cluster, with no ill effect.

Not sure how you you prove it was working though  :-/

Edit: it would probably test itself, every time you turned the ignition on and the lamps all lit up the buzzer would sound
