HELP ! Bloody Alarm will not set.
« on: 21 February 2010, 15:54:48 »

For no apparent reason my alarm has decided to keep going off.
Sometimes it lasts for nearly and hour but generally it trips after about 5 - 10 minutes of me locking the car.

Can I fix it to get some sleep tonight?
Can I disable the alarm bit of locking up the car?
Am I doooooooooooooooommmmmmmmed?

could be the bonnet sensor too - little plunger under the bonnet...

again, you can disconnect to test and see if it helps

did the bonnet switch already with no difference.

just removed the power sounder and the additional horn bolted next to it. Just undid the 2 nuts holding the bracket to the suspension turret and pulled the whole thing out.
Wrapped both leads in a plastic bag and taped up next to the brake/clutch res to keep them dry.

Had a look at the guide post on this forum and it all went well.

Took more time getting the wipers back in the right place on the screen !

So whats next?
Has this disarmed the alarm or will it still cause the indicators to flash ?

Is it a case of replacing the unit and hope that fixes it ?

What do they cost ?

if the alarm is triggered the lights will flash.
as said, i think with powersounder removed the problem will go away.
have you had any unusual chirping noises from the alarm when setting it.

The powersounder triggers the false alarm when the batteries are leaking/failing. As you have also removed the main alarm horn next to the sounder do you realise that you now have no audible alarm at all on the car

Normal alarm should work perfectly, despite the powersounder being dis-connected.

Been there....got the t shirt.

Agreed. But it won`t work when the secondary alarm horn has been removed as said by OP. The horns under the front bumper are nowt to do with the alarm system so as stated, no audible alarm in operation

I think the power sounder is a sab unit (Stand Alone Backup) which has its own rechargeable batteries, the purpose of which is to sound an alarm in the event of no main vehicle battery power. All that happens when the back up batteries start to degrade in the powersounder is the unit needs to let you know it can no longer give backup. Hence it sounds the alarm useing the main vehicle battery.  Its not a fault but a very good system doing its job :y

not noticed any chripping noises.........

Not too bothered about the alarm not sounding for a few days as both work and home are very secure - yet who investigates a car alarm nowadays anyhow?

So, what a new powersounder gonna cost me?
