Extreme Brilliance bulbs
« on: 27 February 2010, 10:25:45 »

I was going to fit a pair of Halfords 90% brighter bulbs 477 EB  H7 12v 55W  .On the box it states suitable for plastic headlights, Will these run hotter than a standard bulb I do not wish to replace damaged headlights for the sake of a brighter light.

They should be fine matey.
If they were a higher wattage, then you could well have problems..................Been there, done that with a Calibra! :-[

Not really.
Nice and bright for a couple of weeks, then the plastic melted and the bulbs had nothing to hold just rattled about a bit. New headlights then!

Big problem with 90's Vauxhalls is the quality of the wiring, and the headlights have wire that really isn't up to the job when it's a few years old.
The solution to the Calibra (and Carlton for that matter) is to rewire the headlights with slightly thicker gauge wire and use separate relays for the dip and main main.

I think GM had it covered when the Omega was launched, but I wouldn't bet on it........

Can't see why that would happen from a standard bulb change?
I fitted Osram Night Breakers on the main beam, everything OK.
