Yes, 3-pin ones are fine.

dont think anyone has been able to find an exact like for like replacement for the soldered in ones ...?

You just solder the single pin in to the closest one of the two vacant holes - they are joined by a track on the PCB anyway
The single pin is on the -ve side of the battery, so just fit the replacements the same way round... IIRC, the polarity is marked on the circuit board too
