Major Alarm Problem, not the power sounder!!!
« on: 10 March 2010, 09:09:48 »

Hi Guys!

My power sounder went up the wall way before Christmas, so I removed it to replace the batteries and that is still sitting on the side waiting for me to get to it!  :-[

Now the remote won’t unset the alarm and if I use the key in the door the alarm keeps beeping and flashing the hazards even AFTER I have put the key in and started the car!!!

The LED on the remote still lights up but interestingly it only flashes once if the unlock is pressed, but repeatedly if the lock is pressed.

I think the remote may need a refurb but I only have one key and the car is stuck 45 miles away!!!  :'(

Any help / ideas etc?

TIA :y

Sounds to me like the "lock" function switch might be stuck in the on position in the remote.

long shot .. take the battery out of the remote and try using it just as a manual key. The alarm will set as you manually lock the drivers door, but will need the key in the ignition to cancel the alarm ....

If the alarm going off is too annoying .. then shut drivers door, open rear door, press the drivers "lock" button down, ensure keys are in pocket, shut rear door. The car is now locked but the alarm is NOT set.

Worth a try until you get the key sorted... and Martin Imber is the man to PM about that... although with just one key I'm not sure how you'll get it sorted !!!

Thanks for that but the biggest problem is that the alarm is set at the moment and even if i unlock the doors with the key it won't stop screeming even AFTER the car has been started! :'(

When you unlock, do the buttons try and pop back down to relock ?? If so then it is the system continually resetting to the locked mode.

Taking the battery out should stop that, and the alarm should then stop once the ignition is on.... at least that's what happened with mine when the switch stuck ....  luckily I have a spare key so could send the knackered one to Martin ... he put new switches in and returned it within 5 days !!

The only other option is to disconnect the alarm horn ... but if I read your post correctly the hazards will still be going .. so the car is quiet but undriveable ..

Thanks for your help!

No the buttons do not try to re-lock as you suggested.

And yes as you said I could disconnect the alarm horn, but the hazards would be going!

I'm thinking that would be an interesting drive home!

I think it maybe my only option though as the car is on a quiet side road 45 miles away!!!

Its supposed to do that - the whole purpose of the Alarm keyfob is to turn the alarm on and off, and make sure that somebody cutting and copying a new key cannot simply drive the car away.

If the Alarm is set, and the fob broken, then you will need to have the fob repaired and looked at before you can disable the alarm. Martin Imber is certainly the man for that.

There is usually a procedure on most cars, where the alarm settings can be reset and activated by repeated turning on/off of the ignition key in conjunction with using the led and numbers on the car pass to enter a vehicle specific code - not sure of procedure for Omega though

Hi again!

Right i've got the key back from having the mr imber treatment and still I can not get the alarm to unset. I've tried to put the key to position 2 and the lock unlock lock thing and still nothing!  :'(

Any other ideas before I set fire to it?

You need a TechII on it mate to ascertain the exact cause. A temporary measure would be to disconnect alarm horn under the driver`s scuttle and pull the relay that activates the "alarm mode" hazards, it lives behind the glovebox.
