Sorry for yet another bose question but has any one done a step by step how2 bye pass the bose amp . Also can you still use the bose amp to power the shelf speakers or would they be powered from the head unit ?  :-/

It's a no go area to be honest, simplest solution is disconnect the Bose loom at the drivers kick panel and replace the speakers with 4 Ohm standard ones (or whatever your HU requires) and loop the connections back with a non-bose prefacelift loom. You will lose the shelf speakers.

If your handy with a soldering iron and have the appropriate plugs and sockets for your gear then the Bose loom can be used to get signals to and from the headunit and rear (amp) of the car making the job a bit simpler.

NO !!

Bose amp is not compatable with any aftermarket units, as it will be overdriven due to the incorrect voltage levels.

Remove the BOSE system in its entirety and find a different amp to run the shelf speakers - not sure what impedance they are, but suspect a small aftermarket amp would not compain if connected to them.

The loom is simply a set of copper wires that run from one end of the car to the other though Dave.  :y Wasn't suggesting using the HU, amp or speakers  ;)

Shelf speakers are 2Ohm as well.  :(

Forgive me if I am wrong but I read some were that the rear door and shelf speakers are joined to together so would this not show as a 4 ohm load on the rear chanels ? And could I not add a 2 ohm resister in the speaker lines as I have been told the speakers are very good ?

Believe it's five channels FL, FR, RL, RR and a bridged mono sub / shelf speakers. Dave / TheBoy should be able to confirm.

The BOSE system was fairly good in its day, but that day has long passed and speaker technology has improved in giant leaps and bounds.

Don`t waste time trying to get the BOSE speakers to run on anything aftermarket, a it will certainly end in tears as many here will tell you.

It doesn't sound to bad to be honnest but I just can't stand the HU ccr600 yuck . What would be your recomendations for a system would still like to keep display and steering wheel controls . Don't listen to cd's much any more since getting ipod so would like direct ipod control .not after bone shaking sub base . So what should I look for speaker wise ?

In my Elite a previous owner removed/nicked the AMP and then just rewired the parcel shelf speakers directly in to the wires travelling from the front and they work fine. The rear door speakers however don't work at all.

I changed the HU to a Sony Xplod and used a Halfrauds patch cable to ensure the steering wheel controls worked.

As Dave DND has pointed out, and in my case, I had to change the front door Bose speakers to Pioneers, as the Sony was very quickly killing them. Seem to be ok using the larger Bose speakers on the parcel shelf but as said, they are wired directly now with the Bose Amp removed.  I was informed that IF I want the rear speakers again, I'd have to change them and have another AMP plonked back in. I'm seriously thinking about doing so !
