CCR2006 not recognising CD magazine
« on: 21 May 2010, 15:30:28 »

Hi all

Hoping I can get some advice with regards to the Philips CCR2006 head unit in my 2001 Omega (facelift model).

Up until about a week ago I was able to listen to CDs without a problem. However, I changed to the radio for an hour and have not been able to get CDs to play since.

If I press the CD button I just get a message on screen saying 'Magazine'. Pressing the eject button opens the cover but does nothing else. I managed to get the CD magazine out using the eject leaver on teh front of the magazine and checked that there were no CDs stuck or in at a funny angle.

Any ideas if this is fixable? I have tried Google but can only find mention of a 'CDC Safe' message.

Thanks

Olly

So what error do you get when you pop a mag in - does it try to read all 4 disks before giving up (sure sign the laser is knackered, usually through using CDRs on those units)

If I take the magazine out I get the usual CDC Open message. When I put the magazine back in (full or empty) the unit makes no attempt to read it and just shows the Magazine message.

Its almost like it doesn't recognise that there is a magazine there??

Sounds like a failed switch somewhere - does having the flap open or closed make any difference whatsoever to any controls, messages or button presses?

As the switch behind the flap is always the prime candidate.

Failing that, remove power for one hour, refit, enter code and try again.

If that fails, then probably the magazine detection sensor, but try the other stuff first, as very unlikely for this to have failed.

Thats exactly what it is.  Had this on mine - all i did was eject the magazine and refit and then worked ok.

Opening the flap gives the CDC Open message so will try the power trick and see what happens. Is there a fuse i can take out to save having to disconnect the battery?

Thanks for the help.

No, don`t disconnect the battery otherwise you will need to reset other things on the car, and same goes for the fuses.

Best way is to remove the unit from the dash, unplug, and leave it for an hour before plugging back in
