parking sensors, anoying fault

fitted a new bumper and had to drill mew holes etc, wacked it all back together and all fine, for a day or so. Take the bumper off for access, find no fault or wiring problem, plugs all fully home. Put it back on, all working, for a day. And so it goes on.

Some thoughts that may or may not be relevant.
I had this abot a year ago when fitting lpg filler and switch cleaner sorted it, but it made the rubber weather seals in the plug swell up, so the plug would not go on, so i used silicon spray on the rubbers and the plug then clipped home. Would silicon spray in the plug pins cause a short?

Would the bumper fitting closer to the cross member have any effect? how do the sensors work? any magnets involved to cause them to play up? doubt it but need to know what im playing with.

Put the car in reverse, engine off so i can here the beeps while at the back of the car, touch the sensors with the right amount of pressure and they tick or pulse, is this normal, does touching them do any harm?

any thoughts appreciated, i hate electrics and the fact the whole system fails in a constant lower tone doesn't help pinpoint which sensor, or wiring to, is playing up.

mine still disconnected for similar reason - sensors and control unit ok - wiring fault somewhere

I had them fitted to the front of my Citroen  :P :P but hardly used as soon got used to it... ::) ::) ::)

Yes the ticking / pulsing is completely normal, if you put the car in reverse with just the ignition on have a listen, any sensor that isn't ticking / pulsing will be the one at fault. If they are all ticking / pulsing then you have a wiring fault somewhere else.

I do this test on all sorts of cars, and so far has always helped me find the faulty sensor.

have you droped them as they dont like to be droped, and they should also not be put together.

That information is news to me .. and could be very usefull :)

Does the speaker need to be connected to do this test ?? Speaker is presently disconnected to stop the annoying noise, and none of the sensors tick/pulse or do anything !!

i have factory parking sensors and they don't work.. they either make a continuous sound ot they beep verry fast and then continuous again. i have the car for 2 months and today was the only time they worked for me, so all hope is not lost. how can i fix them?? how can i recognise wich one of them is damaged?

the ticking test worked for me, or it helped id the one not ticking anyway, as said, in reverse, engine off ignition on, gives a costant tone, which i assumed ment the whole system was down, but no, the rest of the sensors still tick except the one just to the right of the number plate in my case.

Still have to find the fault with it but at least i know which one. Maybe it needs some of Mr Bee in his bonnet from Bury's favourite "fix's everything, cures all ills copper slip" ?

When feeling the ticking you need to press on the sensor very lightly, too light or too heavy a touch and you wont feel it. Might be able to hear it but i didn't try that. hth

never said you didn't, but if your buzzer is playing silly buggers, you'll have to rely on JUST your mirrors!  :y  :y  :y

Best method is to hear the sensors ticking, so do it in the evening when it's nice and quiet...

Once you've found the sensor that doesn't tick remove it and and swap it over with another one that is working, that will help confirm whether you have a sensor fault or a wiring fault...

originaly you said "look in your mirrors"! wont find any ticking or sensor wiring faults "in" there.....(sigh). ::)
