Hi Guys, it's good to see the OOF doing so well after 6mths, congrats to those involved for their hard work.
I have a question on headlights.
Can I convert my old HL's to the newer Xenons as I can't seem to find a pair of the 'old style' at a reasonable price.
Mine passed the MOT but probably won't next time (cloudy).
Anything to watch out for? :-?

Several threads around on this subject.. problem falls into 2 halves ... physical and legal

Physical its about wiring capabilities and is not insurmountable. Lights must be E-marked

Legal .. the arguments start ... 

VOSA page and "construction and use" regulations REQUIRE a NEW build to have reasonably sophisticated light levelling and light washers.

In some folks eyes a conversion does not need this, however you risk blinding oncoming drivers if you don't have some leveling device, and the light output is much more affected by dirt than "normal" lights so without a washing system you lose the benefits very fast.

There are cheap conversions sold on the bay .. but be careful ... all lights/bulbs used MUST be E marked .. many of these are not.. and quite a few are continental spec as well ...  for the other side of the road !!

This is quite common and can be solved with a good clean using 1000 grade wet and dry.There are other good cleaners that can brighten the headlights including toothpaste and t-cut.

If cloudiness is the problem (lenses) you've got my manual in maintenance section to solve it.

The easiest option is to fit projector lights fitted with a set of osram nightbreaker bulbs, no wiring to faff about with just a straight replacement.

You'll be surprised how good 1000 grade wet and dry is.Give it a go and spot the difference.Remeber to mask off the surrounding body work before you start !
