Visually Lost!!!
« on: 14 August 2010, 04:52:57 »

Hi everyone i looked around the forum hoping i could get some sort of help, but since there hasnt been any, ive decided to add a post!

Iv got a omega elite 2001 model with the NCDC 2013 with CID (colour display). It was working fine, then half the screen went blank (few knocks on the dash didnt help), later on the whole screen went blank (white)! :( Could it be a loose ribbon??

Ive looked on ebay.de they are quite pricey >:(, if it was a cheap repair dont mind, otherwise il have no choice but to take off the screen, but what do i put in that place instead???

Is there an alternative, please any idea, tips, hints will be greatly appreciated!! :y :y

Sounds like a failing LCD panel.

Only 2 screens work with that stereo/satnav system - the CID and the mono GID.  However, its not a starightforward swap, as the stereos and screens are paired together.

Possibly the best option is to send the display off to one of the companies that repair them (or replace the LCD panel yourself if you can source one), but still not a cheap option.

As TB says, its almost certainly a CID that has failed.

From your description, its probably the bonding of the flexible circuit ribbon to both the glass and the PCB that have failed - replacement screens are still just about available, and a new CID is prohibitively expensive.

We have now had some success in rebonding the circuits to the glass on other screens, and are currently investigating some specialist tooling so that we can accomodate this shape of screen also - but don`t hold your breath, unlikely to be this side of christmas

Thanks TB an Dave appreciated alot.

As to TB's reply. what if i was to rip out the NCDC HU and lets say put in a aftermarket HU, would that make it easier to slot in a GID in da same screen spot!

Actually have looked around for the LCD screens in Hong Kong, but just dont feel comfortable swapping it over!

Ps im guessing if there is no other option i just leave the connection at the back disconnected so wont be such an eyesore (bright white display) 8-)

Worth tracking down a company called BBA-Reman ?

as I think they may still offer a repair service to that screen?

If you want to rip out the CID and HU, you need to fit a MID, a new wiper stalk, and a bit of wiring.

Obviously, despite it being knackered, I may be interested in buying your NCDC and CID (parts are hard to source, so always looking to acquire spare parts for the right price) :y

Where are you based - to use a MID, you need an element of rewiring (simple - just 3 wires from display to wiper stalk (which needs replacing as well))

Additionally, if you are removing the Headunit (which you will have to, as that only works with GID or CID, not MID), then you need to remove all Bose related items if you fit aftermarket stuff in.

Lastly, I may have a working GID that I may be prepared to come to some deal with you for your non working CID. This would allow you to use your existing headunit, you just lose the map functionality of the satnav (it shows pictorial instructions, similar to when you have CID set to pictorial).  You also lose intersection zoom.

I guess the re-wiring hope is out the window then, sadly the smallest 4ch amp i have is a kicker 850.4! An that connected to the bose speakers will most probably blow it up in smoke!

Still have my fingers crossed on reply from BBA remans! :-/
