Post up your location .. if you are near one of the "tech2's" you'll be able to get things done much cheaper .. :)

This thread is, as they say, relevant to my interests.. as I just bought a car with only one key, too. (Somewhere out there must be a giant pile of keys...)

I was looking at secondhand reman. keys on eBay (the electronic part, not the physical key spade, of course) and wondering if they could be programmed to my immobiliser with a Tech2 given the correct CarPass codes.. because surely that would be much cheaper than a brand new key assembly from Vauxhall!

Three different bits to the key.

Metal blade can be cut at any competent locksmiths, in the same way as any other key.  Available from OOF.

Immobiliser chip.  Needs Tech2 to programme it to the car plus, advisable to delete any other chips that *may* be programmed to the car, just in case an old key resurfaces sometime in the hands of someone else.

The alarm fob.  That too can be programmed to the car without too much fuss or worry.

As said, TB is probably the closest in Brackley.  Check the link given for prices...   :y

Isn't there an issue with getting 2nd hand electonic bits re-programmed? Or is that just on newer cars in the Vxl range

Also i understand you can now only buy the 'flip' type key from Vauxhall they don't do the fixed key anymore

 ;D

Whereabouts in the country are you?

Not because I'm looking for a dodgy MOT, just because it's always handy to know an MOT tester who you know won't invent faults on the car to drum up repair business (not that any of them do that, of course..) :)
