re auto wipers
« on: 17 September 2010, 19:55:02 »

hi all. i have seen that a lot of people say the facelift elite version should have rain sensing wipers.
i have a 2.5 facelift elite but it does not have this option. everything else is there including working rear blind but no rain sensing wipers.
would anyone have an idea why this is. ie only fitted to 2.6 3.2 etc
or should it be there and someone has removed to repair etc.
thanks in advance. :) 8-)

Generally only on late cars.

If it has it, the rear view mirror has the larger base, which houses the sensor, and the windscreen is different

As TB says, it's only found on later vehicles. I have seen some '02' plates with and without, but typically all '52' plates and later do have rain sensing wipers.
This is what the rain sense looks like...

That reminds me.... Must make sure I mention that the DTi has rain-sensing wipers when I get around to getting a new screen in it.

Is this something that is easy to retrofit to a mig without?

sounds like a lot of messing with wiring. different wiper stalk. different mirror and base and different windscreen.
could be costly and a lot of work.
think i will stick with moving the stalk with my hand lol.  :y

The wiring is already there in my car. I believe the stalk is the same - unless you have the variable intermittent wipe? (In which case, is it worth bothering?).

Think you just need to remove the intermittent wipe timer module, install another box of tricks of some sort - probably just a relay - in the engine bay fuse box and fit the mirror housing with sensor.

Then take one of LBC's finest.. Oops! :o And a call to the windscreen outfit of your choice. ;)

While we are on the subject of windscreens....

My 53 plate elite has auto wipers, but a standard green tint screen with a darker sunshade strip along the top.  I have seen some migs with the solar screen (looks purple from a distance), and am considering changing for this as and when my screen needs replacing.

Does anyone have and comments (good or bad) on these screens, and know whether they still have the sun shad strip and auto wipers built in?

Also, my car is a black estate, and I'm undecided as to whether the purple look of the screen would look right or not, and thoughts?

Cheers  :y

The photo I attached above is from an Elite estate I currently have, it has the solar reflect screen. Here's a link to a few pictures, you can see it does look quite purple...

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1285347829

The solar screen does still have auto wipers and sunshade strip. The only negative I've heard is that it can make it harder for portable sat navs, i.e tomtom's etc to get a good signal. I've never experienced this as I've never used a portable sat nav in the estate.
