New owner - central lock, dash, lights, advice pls
« on: 18 October 2010, 18:34:36 »

I've recently bought a V-plate Omega saloon, just before facelift - so is that what is referred to as a "mini-facelift"? It is a 3.0 Elite with excellent interior, came with 12 months MoT, 6 tax and four virtually new tyres. Whilst I want to change the alloys at some point, I'm not passing up the new tyres!  ;)

The niggles I've found so far are these:

1. Seatbelt light - shows on dashboard as being present but not illuminating. Does this mean dash out to replace a bulb?

2. Cruise control - no indicator (like the green speedometer image on modern Vxls), is this right?

3. N/s front door has mind of its own when blipping remote. Button stays where it wants to rather than locking. All other 3 doors nice and obedient. Is this connection/earth rather than a relay/module issue?

4. Is there a remote boot release? If so where please?!  :-/

5. Has Xenons which are nice, but sidelights still "yellow". What type bulbs should I be putting in there to make blue/white like Xenons please?

6. Dash has the TID (I think!), is there any point/benefit changing to MID or CID (again I'm just quoting these abbreviations not sure whether they'll work!)? With the CarIn nav system does this affect anything?

7. Passenger front elec seat seems not to move anywhere near as far forward as driver's. Seat seems to have run up against front stops so this may be it??  :-[

8. Driver's heated seat seems not functioning - separate fuse/relay from passenger (front)? Does it need a minimum outside temp to work? Ditto the "snow mode" on auto trans?

9. Is it feasible/reasonably straightforward to change instrument lights and window switches etc. to blue as in new Jags etc?

10. Should like to add First Aid kit and triangle to boot to complete the car. Do these come up on ebay? If so, are there specific "models" for the age of car?

11. Across back it says "Vauxhall" (left) and "Elite" (right). Should there be "Omega" or "Omega 3.0 V6" or similar?

Thanking everyone in advance who cares to contribute to this since my knowledge of Omega-specific issues is going to have to be built from the ground up. Is the Haynes any good for basic DIY stuff?

1    No Nanny light for not wearing your seat belt in an Omega (must be for other countries)

2 No cruise 'ON' light

3 Possibly a fubar'd locking motor, but you might get away with removing the door card & giving all the mechanism a good lub'ing up

4  No remote boot release, that comes on later models

5  you could try the multi surface mount led type

6  Sat-Nav is completely separate from your dash TID/MID/etc

7  Often a coin stuck in the runners at the back, transmission tunnel side - my driver's side was a £1 coin, others have had €1 in there.  ;D

8  Heated seats often fail. Best bet is to remove the seat & have a look. You might be lucky & the burnt bit can easily be cut out and the loom connection re-made.

9  Don't mention blue leds here .....  ;D ;D ;D Jamie gets upset  ;D :y

10 Pass  :-/

11  Yours sounds right to me.  :y :y

1) Does this light come on without starting the car? If not the bulb has blown or been removed to hide a problem.

2)No cruise indicator on these.

3) The central locking solonoid has had it.

4) No, handle on the boot itself.

5) 509's, standard side light bulbs.

6) TID is standard for the Elite, quite a bit of work to upgrade it wiring wise.

7) Check the runners for coins, £1 and 20p's are favourite.

8) Normally means the heater pad has failed, they are stitched into the seats on leather. Snow mode works at any temp., just locks the gearbox into 3rd gear.

9) Why? Blue LED's are gay ;D

10) I've got both original fist aid kits and triangles here :y

11) Normal for late mini-facelift elites to be badged as Vauxhall and Elite.

Haynes The book of lies is OK for most things, the maintenance guide on here is much more concise and factual.

Airbag light illuminates and goes out as expected - thank goodness!

FURTHER QUERY: Snow mode light - when pressing large snowflake symbol to left of autoshifter should a light show on dashboard or the snowflake symbol itself light up please?
