CDR2005 Dead
« on: 14 October 2010, 23:42:53 »

CDR2005 in V6 was working fine, then, only a buzzing interference which increased and decreased in time with the engine revs, then, dead as a dodo.
Thinking fuse no.6, discovered no fuse in no.6 holder. Put 20amp fuse in, no result.
Now hoping for confirmation that there is another fuse in the unit itself, if so what size before I pull the unit out.

There is a 10A fuse at the back of the radio,

However, your ecellent fault description leads me to think that you either have an earth point failure somewhere that could be fixed by simple cleaning and remaking, or you have the start of an alternator fault, in which case it may have fried the power supply inside the radio.

Check for permanent and ignition supplies and earth on the plug at the back of the radio as well.

Err?  :-? I think you might have fubar'd your radio, the front shouldn't come off. The grub screws you've removed are just blanks so that you can fit these .... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PC5-110-CAR-RADIO-REMOVAL-KEYS-VAUXHALL-AGILA-/260673425549?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cb158d08d#ht_500wt_1156 You push each prong down the holes you've now exposed till you get a click, then as you slightly lever outwards you pull the unit out.
I've removed the smaller radios loads of time quite easily, but I believe these bigger units are a PITA to remove.

Yes did that but only the front panel came off. The panel just plugs in to the rear unit. Will try again with the removal tools

A very common mistake, as although it looks like it will just plug straight back in, if you try doing this you will almost certainly push the pins through the back of the socket on the board - and that will lead to an even more expensive repair.

If you are confiodent enough, remove the CD mech before attempting to reattatch the fascia, as you can then see how the pins line up.

Ok, I got it out. I pushed the front panel back on and tried again with removal tools. obviously I had'nt driven them home the first time.
Unforunately the 10 amp fuse is OK, Tried to get the tray out to check wiring to the multi-plugs, removed 1 phillps screw at back of tray, no joy.
I would like to hook up the radio to a battery on the bench to check if it works, anyone know which spades I should connect the + and - to and of course a speaker.    :-/

These are the voltages at the multiplug are these Ok ?

Wow, I saw this post too late.  The front panel seemed to go back on easy enough and clicked into place, need to wait and see now.

Well it looks like it is dead. On the bench I connected it up to a battery with a speaker and an aerial and not a peep out of the beast. :'(
Watch for my ad in wanted section. Thanks for the advice.    :y

Today for no reason the lights on the unit all came on and 'SAFE' appeared on my display.

Is this a miracle, a resurrection, or is it taking the pi$$.  The on off switch does nothing and there's no sound.

Ok since the on off switch does nothing, I couldn't switch it off. So turned ignition off.
Held in AS button and then ign back on, entered code per your instruction and the bloody thing worked. Absolutely delighted.
Still can't switch it off now, but that's better than not being able to switch it on.  ;D

To silence the radio I have to turn ign off and physically remove the key. I can live with this unless there is an easy solution.

Cheers Dave  :y

I would check the facia panel is properly connected - ages since I've had one of those apart, but I seem to recall a small ribbon to the volume/on/off

Thanks TB.
Taking the front panel off is apparently a no no.
See above posts.
When i had it off (the panel) there was no ribbon only a plug in type socket. Volume works OK
On/Off doesn't.

I found the answer in the manual.

It's called 'Ignition Key Logic' and it works as it's
supposed to.

This can be turned on or off as desired.

Thanks to all for the input.   :y
