Drivers Kick Panel Bose Setup
« on: 11 November 2010, 09:34:47 »

Is there a guide somewhere which shows which wires I need to patch etc. to disable the Bose setup so I can use a Sony head unit?

There have been lots of textual descriptions, but I still cant seem to figure out how to get it to work.

Or is there a step by step (in layman's terms) on how to do it?

The best way would be to look for a non-bose car. I believe they had a connector plugged into this socket that just loops the speaker outputs on the head unit to the speaker wiring. Plug one of these in and away you go.

I certainly wouldn't want to start hacking the wiring loom about in case you want to return it to the original setup.

I'm not aware of any guides though, I'm afraid.

OK, I'l' take a look at another car.
If I can get it to work, I'll also create a Guide for it.

I know the Bose isn't everyone's cup of tea, but replacing it with a Sony unit :o.  I could understand a Goodmans or something like that, but a crappy Sony....

Just had a look at the drivers kick panel in my Elite.
There is a blue connector that has wires feeding into (from the Headunit?) and from it (To the back of the car?).

Had a look at someone's Omega MV6. There was no Blue connector. The wires just ran straight down to the back of the car (as though it seemed).

I've searched on google and 4 different forums.
Nobody seems to know (or to tell others) how to De-Bose an omega.

OK, I've finally done it! - With aid from ICE man.

Here's how I (we) did it:
1) Remove the Factory fitted Double Din Headunit

2) Open up the drivers Kick panel. There are 4 screws under the Vauxhall logo strip. 1 screw behind the bonnet release lever. The final screw is under the Vauxhall logo strip. (But you must lift the strip up to gain access)

3) You should see a Blue and Black connector which are connected together.
The Black connector sits on top of the Blue connector.
The Black connector has many different wires coming going into it.
There are 4 thick black wires. These wires seem to have 2 wires coming out of them.
(This thick black wire is simply a casing/housing that groups 2 wires together).
The 4 thick black casing wires have a total of 8 wires coming out of them.
2 for front Left (both +ve and -ve), 2 for front Right (both +ve and -ve), 2 for back Left (both +ve and -ve), 2 for back Right (both +ve and -ve)

4) All you need to do is cut all 8 wires coming out of the 4 black casing wires.
Then you need to cut all 8 wires that have the same colour that are connected to the black connector.
Then you need to patch each colour from the 4 black wire casing wires, to the corresponding (same colour) wires that were connected to the black connector (which you have now cut

For example:
1)There is a 'Yellow' wire and 'Yellow and Brown' wire that is cased in 1 black wire casing.
Cut these 2 wires so that they are no longer connected to the black connector plug.

2)There is another 'Yellow' wire and 'Yellow and Brown' wire that is connected to another part of the black connector plug.
Cut these 2 wires so that they are no longer connected to the black connector plug.

Now all you need to do is to connect and tape the 'Yellow' wire from 1) to the 'Yellow' wire from 2). Then connect the 'Yellow and Brown' wire from 1) to the 'Yellow and Brown' wire from 2).

Repeat this process for the other 6 wires.
Making sure that you connect the same coloured wire from 1) to the same coloured wire to 2)

Any problems feel free to contact me (or ICE man).

The easiest solution, as was stated previously, was to use a kickpanel plug from a non bose prefacelift.

Likely, seeing as the replacement is one of those (overpriced) cheapo Sony units ;D

Excellent description.

I would have found this helpful when I did mine.

The loop back plug from a 'non bose pre facelift' would have plugged straight in. If you don't happen to have one lying around (I didn't and I did spend some time trying to buy one) then a bit of work with a soldering iron and some sleeving does the job.

Non-Bose prefacelift loopback plug from a breakers...... as stated.

Will also require all the speakers replacing with 4Ohm versions.
