Following on from the aux belt failure, the battery has died. I know it isn't as simple as disconnecting the terminals and refitting. I can remember some steps (below) but I can't for the life of me find the info again. What I remember is

1. Turn on the ignition, then turn off.
2. Within 15 secs disconnect the negative terminal, then positive.
3. Refit battery
4. See if it runs.

Is this right? I imagine the powersounder will probably go off as well.

that's correct, if you do as you've posted, then the powersounder won't sound.

if the battery is already stone dead, then the proceedure doent need to be followed, just connect a new battery, and have the keyfob at hand to deactivate the alarm if it goes off.

Brilliant, thanks I thought I was going mad 

edit: not totally dead but not far from it, very slow warning siren when checking the battery by turning on the lights. Wouldn't turn over etc. Thank you
