Hey peeps happy new year...
right i changed my alternator a couple of months ago with a new belt. My light came back on a couple of weeks ago, it simply wasnt charging so stopped using car for over xmas coz i didn't wanna bugger about with it during the holiday period.
Took the alternator off yesterday and 'tested' it (dont know if there is a proper way of doing it but rigged it remotely to a battery, socket on the end of the pulley and spun it over with an airgun) got about +0.23volts from it.
Take it thats buggered then (it was a secondhand off the old car) unless my testing technique isn't that great...
What i wanna know is, im assuming i need another one, but from what i can gather the v6's have a 120 amp one as appose to the 105amp one on the TD's, are they a straight swap?
does anyone have / can anyone point me in the right direction of, a replacement one?
Ebay seems to have great variety of priced ones available, is it a case of stick with O.E. or will any one do?
Also, am i likely to knacker a third one is there a pattern going on here or is it simply the fact that my old one and latest replacement one had both been to the moon and back?
what do i need to look out for?? :-?
