Do they need to be depaired if the CID and NCDC are going to be  kept together?

Depair ?????
The NCDC head unit and the CID communicate with each other using CANbus (fancy modern wiring that new cars are full of nowadays).

Each component on the CANbus has to have the same security code as all the others or else it won't work. Replacement components are shipped without a security code. When the replacement is installed it is 'paired' with the other components using the code.

Putting a component in shipping mode (depairing) is damn near impossible once it is taken out of a working set up.

The thing about the Omega is that the CANbus isn't connected to the engine ECU like it is in modern cars so the NCDC doesn't need to be paired with the ECU

AFAIK the only reason CANbus was ever installed in an Omega was to connect NCDC head units to the CID (I have this nagging feeling that there might be a third component in some NCDC installs. Boot changer? telematics/phone? perhaps).

If you keep all the components together then they should work in a new install. If you want to separate them you need to go to someone with Tech2 who knows how to use it and have them depaired.

From what I have read on this forum the only person who has tried all the options with Tech2 and NCDC head units is The Boy. (and that includes breaking them).

I know he has had to recover FUBAR key security after failed "My Naff Code Reader" sessions (by others), I don't know if that extends to FUBAR NCDC security  :-/

I know for certain that I cannot recover the code status from an NCDCxxxx head unit - if not depaired correctly from the original vehicle, then we would simply write them off - no value whatsoever.

so im right in thinking that depairing can be done with the tech 2 in the correct way how much would this cost ???
Also what are the items worth once this has been done
To put you in the picture im thinking of breaking my 3.2 elite in a few months when the tax runs out im hoping its worth more as parts compaired to the full car value  :y

TBH Mark, you're probably right... The Irmscher kit alone (if in A1 condition) will make a fair bit :y

As for the radio unit... There's a fair chance that someone here will have the complete kit :y
