Ncdr help
« on: 13 February 2011, 20:48:20 »

Ok i have an ncdr fitted to my car and the screen went dead so i replaced the lcd part of the cid.

It displayed the opel badge after the new lcd was installed. So took it to VX and they changed the opel logo for the VX one. Now my display flashes up SAFE DISPLAY every 5 seconds. I can still use the full features like cdc, cd, bc, nav ect ect it just gets interupted every 5 seconds with the above message.

Anyone got any ideas?

LOL, sounds like you changed the entire CID, not just the LCD panel.

If thats right, you need to refit original screen, depair with the original pairing code, refit new screen, repair.  Or simply swap the failed component (LCD panel, or the inverter board)

Did you do it yourself? As changing the LCD wouldn't affect the logo, and wouldn't affect the security.

I am assuming it worked fine before....

Correct. And no didnt do it my self.

Is there anything that could effect preset codes on the replacement screen? As when i open the replacement there is a multiplug and circuit board.

I suspect you didn't get you're screen back then. Or they wiped the EEPROM.

I bought the replacement my self. And took it to a auto electrition who replaced it for me. I got my cid back and the old screen.

Is it possible for a "decent" auto electrition to read the ncdr epprom to get the code to put the code onto the cid.

Or can vauxhall locate the code using a car reg number?

Thats unlucky.

Do you have a CDC3 as part of the NCDR setup? Its unlikely you can get a working code from Vauxhall, and I suspect each attempt will be £20 - £50, and you can't tell its right until the point of tech2'ing.

Yes i have a cdc3 tb in my setup. Which works with my ncdr perfectly.

Safe display means the cid is in an unpaired state doesnt it?

The auto electrition i know of has tech2 and eprom.

That gives an option

It means the display has not managed to negotiate the security, not just it may not have a code. It could have a wrong code.

But not the knowledge I suspect.

What concerns me is that this has happened, supposedly, during an LCD replacement. I do struggle to understand how that could happen. Changing the LCD is very easy, it shouldn't need to go anywhere near a tech2. I really am struggling to see how any config could have got changed.  I am suspicious we don't know the full story here.

Do you trust this guy? Is he compitent (I always hear alarm bells when I here the phrase Auto Electrician)?

Something is amiss here.

I have invested a considerable sum of time and money in understanding/cracking this system. I am unable to give people that information, nor am I in a position to fix the coding issues for free  :'(

In this case, can you get a code reader on the cid, go to Live Data, and find out the Security status:

Delivery Mode
I.D. OK
I.D.NOK

On Tech2 Live data, its the setting below the battery voltage.

Even in the event of an incorrect code can it be changed to match my cdc3 / ncdr code?

Do i need my cdc3 read to get my code?

The auto electection i will go to never replaced te screen. So i have more faith in these people to check it out for me.

The unit was bought from a scraped car. I installed it all, and the screen didnt work. So after searching the internet i found the lcd replacemet was a sharps item. I bought the replacement lcd and had it changed. It worked but the screen displayed as an opel screen. A trip to VX sorted that out but now it has display safe

So, the bit where you said it worked before you replaced the screen should have been you assumed it worked. Thats were the confusion about the situation happened :y

I have a method of retrieving the pairing code from the CDC3, but given that you don't know if that is correctly paired to the NCDR and TELEMATICS, it may or may not be of help.

Do you ever get a message saying RADIO SAFE

Before doing that, isn't it worth checking what state your CID is in?

I too smell a very big furry rodent here   :-/

However, I can put the CID back into delivery mode
