i would rip the powersounder out if its misbehaving, they have been known to sponteneously combust!  on far too many occasions, so remove before you become another statistic.

The powersounder sounds like it has indeed reached the end of its serviceable life, and if it goes neglected any further, then yes, as JimBob has pointed out, they can indeed combust.

However, you can simply replace them with a new one, and they will perform as they should for many more years to come. The powersounder performs a function, and it does do it quite well, however it is often neglected when it starts to chirp away on its own instead of being repaired with new batteries or replaced. Much is said about removing them on the forum, and there really is no need, providing of course that they are working correctly. It is highly unlikely that they will catch fire without a bit of warning though.

Very important though -

DONT  IGNORE  IT  !!!!

if it starts to play up

DEAL  WITH  IT  IMMEDIATELY  !!!

well while draining diff i removed power sounder what a loverly big wet sponge the car builder fitted under the scuttle all nice and soggy ontop of the wiring for the power sounder and the other horn sat next to it also should there be a pipe from drain in scuttle as thats right over it , enywhay its out and heat wrapped conextion till i get a new one , and the soggy sponge noise padding is in the bin , much better, just found out i can put a sim card in sterio and make hands free calls how cool is that . :y
