Hi all. I have a NCDC 2013 and it has been spitting the Sat Nav disc out until 'warmed up' for about a year now (Common fault). I finally purchased a replacement laser unit as per this thread http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1291909507. I attempted to fit this week, but after opening up the Radio Unit I realised I needed more time, so aborted for now BUT, whilst I had the top cover off I took the opportunity to clean the laser lens with a damp cotton bud. It was definitely dusty / dirty. Since refitting the Radio Unit my 'spitting problems' have gone away! So it 'may be' that a simple lens clean may hep you.

To do it, remove the Radio unit as per the maintence guide. Remove the two screws holding the outer cover to the top CD unit, lift up and remove. Remove the four smaller screws (at each corner) of the inner CD mechanism and lift from the left (looking from the front) about two inches (being careful not to damage the flat ribbon cable on the opposite side). Prop the lid up with something then , using a damp cotton bud, gently wipe the lense surface followed by a dry wipe with the other end of the bud. Reverese the above procedure to replace covers / Radio and keep your fingers crossed! Good Luck.

I will not change the lens unit unless it fails again, but if I do, I will create a maintenance guide for it.

Would advise ethyl alcohol on the cotton bud for laser lens cleaning, usual procedure for other types of CD lens cleaning

If you have none, vodka works equally well- the better the vodka the purer & less contaminates.

Smirnoff Black so far seems about the best.....avoid Lidls!!!

NO !!

NEVER USE ANY CHEMICALS ON A LASER LENS 

You will destroy the protective surface coating - breath on them to create a mist and then wipe off using a lint free bud taking care not to apply too much pressure

I beg to differ, both Denon & Pioneer recommended the above in there service manuals, Denon also sell pre-impregnated wipes

But don`t ever say I didn`t warn you !!

 

P.S. You are probably looking at that in some very old home hi-fi service manuals - the lens coatings were different, but that said, the advice being taught on the training courses by Pioneer, Clarion, Sony, Kenwood, Panasonic, Blaupunkt, VDO that I have been on is never to use chemicals.

20 years of servicing various makes of CD players, and never a fail.

PS, service manual of a Pioneer CDJ2000 (only been on the market 6 months) lists the fluid & paper in the service items parts list, & what to do with them, as do Denon
Bit odd that Pioneer tell you one thing, but there own service manual says another don't you think?

I also find it odd that they would make fluid to do a job, then tell you not to use it??

I don't do "home hifi" repairs, there's no money in it
