Mine has the rear-window FM/AM ariel as standard.

As this is cr*p, and I have the combined GSM/GPS twig (of which I use neither part), has anyone tried putting an FM on the roof where the other one is, & take the cable from the rear window to it?

Am getting rather bored of 5 different frequencies of the same Heart FM, and don't really want to be bothered with DAB, or not 'til I have no choice anyway

Not an FM antenna but I replaced the GSM antenna with one coving the 2m and 70cm amateur bands.  

If you carefully detach the trim panel that runs across the top of the rear screen (with the high level brake light) you can get to the back of the antenna. Disconnect the coax and unscrew the antenna and you have a hole about 18mm diameter from memory.

I used a "Panorama" modular base with a whip on the top. They may even do FM antennae.

You can either use the existing coax to connect it (it runs up the driver's side sill to the kick panel) or use this cable to pull another cable through down the rear pillar, behind the back seat outer armrest and into the sill.

Thanks for that, but I don't think they do something as basic as FM- although it's given me an idea fro another project!

The idea looks do-able, just gotta find a sensible twig.

Anyone got an estate assembly for sale?

FM radio transmits on VHF from 87.5 to 108.0 MHz.

Any of the 67-250 MHz antennae will cover the FM radio band.

They probably need cutting to length. I'm sure there are FM aerials what would fit the hole, and cheaper. This was just an example of what can be fitted.

Sometimes a mark is left by the old gasket but Tcut solves that!

I have some peeling lacquer round the edge of the base, probably should look at it.....

Yours probably has a bigger base being satnav equipped, the ebay item looks pretty much the same base as fitted to the Mig Estates.

Probably worth a punt for a fiver.

I did a retro fit with a HAL 3 dab aerial.I removed the existing roof short stubby aerial which I assume was only for TM on my model.

The HAL 3 from dabonwheels came with a 5 mtr cable already attached.I removed part of the rear head lining and then ran it down the centre pillar.Along the passenger side floor kick plate and round the back of the glove box.Than it connects to a Highway dab receiver which gives crytal clear dab quality sound via the existing bose unit.

Unfortunatly in the heavy snow of december the aerial mast broke and despite my best efforts to glue it back it is now very wonky so will need replacing.

I have the problem of the roof hole being 18mm and the aerial base being onky around 12mm so on the look out for a suitable rubber grommet or base mount.

I don't think so. I found that if you pull down on the centre of the panel it unclips, Then you can just about bend it enough to slide it out from behind one of the trim panels that runs up the side pillar, then slip it out from behind the opposite side pillar. Reassembly is the reverse of...

Removal of one of the side pillar trim panels would probably be kinder to it, but I didn't fancy that.
