Sure there was a schematic of the cooling fan process somewhere on the forum before with the fan sequence and relays involved.

Will have a search and see if I can locate it ...think about 12 months or so .

Take a look at http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1276355362/0 - this has more info on relays and testing than you can shake a pheasant at.  If you've any further questions I'll see what I can dig up for you.

Hi dave thanks for the that but i am afraid iam thick when it comes to car electrics. All the fans come on it just that it now takes longer for them to come on. It used to come on at 85 and the needle never went any higher it now does it at 90 would your checks find out why this is happening..I dont know if its relivant but me passenger window doesnt work now either
cheers Paul.

This sounds completely normal to me. Mine gets to low 90's before any fans come on.

Having said that, the gauge markings are not really accurate enough to be relevant. If the fans come on a little above mid-gauge then I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

Note that if the air conditioning is running (not in ECO mode) the front fans run at a low speed all the time, so the engine may never get above the mid-gauge level required to switch on further fans in any case.

Ahh, OK. Maybe you do have a problem. Could be that the air con needs gassing as that would stop it engaging. Not sure if it would stop the fans too, though.

Does it cool the car? Does the pulley on the front of the air con compressor spin when it's on?

OK. If the air con is working OK I would start with the fuses. There are a couple in the relay box next to the battery that drive the cooling fans.

Hi a follow on from above, the front fans are not moving when air con is on. Also i have checked fuses under the steering wheel and i have about 8 of them not light up with the tester. I checked this with the ignition on and off, also no codes stored. Dont no how to test relays any ideas :'(

How are you testing the fuses? Removing them and doing a continuity test or checking for voltage at the fuse itself? Not all of them will be "live" at any time.

If you have the little fuse box that fits over the battery positive terminal don't forget to check the fusible links in there.

Relays are more tricky. I would suggest following Dave AW's link and finding the fan diagnostic connector if no fuses are blown. If you can work out what aspects of the fan control don't work by grounding pins on that connector we can suggest which, if any, relays might be suspect.

Hi tested fuses using a screwdriver tester clip onto car then touch end of fuse little bulb lights up.. I have checked in the handbook the fused not lighting up where fuses that until you turn it on eg lights dont show anything. The only one i am not sure about is number 34 which is rear window/cooling fan. Its a 40amp, how can i test this one :question I looked at the way of testing the relays but its all double dutch to me. Any otherway of testing them.

The safest and most reliable ways to test or check a fuse are - with ignition OFF, key out of lock.

Checking
1: Remove fuse.
2: look at little bit of metal between connectors, it should not be broken/blown.
3:Put fuse back ( doesn't matter which way round ). in the same place you got it from !

Testing
1: Remove fuse
2: Set multimeter to Ohms - lowest setting ( usually the one that beeps when you touch the wires )
3: Check that resistance is 0 (or very close to) then you touch leads on connectors.
The reading will either be
a) open circuit ( O/L or similar on display ) ( same as not touching your multimeters leads to anything at all ) - Fuse blown.
b) 0 - fuse OK.
4: Put fuse back where you got it from, or replace as necessary.

N.B. Always remove fuse from car to do this.
If you don't own a multimeter, prices start from £ 4.99 ish.  Buy one !

Messing about with bulbs, clips, and stuff is all well and good for certain things, but fuses are so simple just take'em out and try'em !!
