I have the SC804 & want to keep it instead of putting in an after market H/U, but would like to get better quality sound, can this be achieved by buying better speakers or am I wasting my money as the 804 H/U wouldn't really be up to the job

SC804 does not have much power behind it, but fitting these speakers will see a significant improvement over the sound quality though

Cheers Dave 2 further questions now then, 1: will these fit behind the covers in the doors?, 2: can you wire in a small amp just to help the H/U?

Yes, these will fit behind the doors, but I forgot to mention that you will also need speaker rings to fit them - not expensive, under a tenner a pair

However, if you are contemplating a small amp, and nothing wrong with that at all, then I would suggest to look at a different set of speakers to complement the amp, and would suggest something like these instead

Just to add to what Dave says, make sure the amp complements the speakers as well.

For example, the second set of speakers Dave linked to have a max input power of 350W (I'd like to see them take anywhere near that), although their true RMS rating is 55W.
Therefore, I'd suggest an amp that can reach 500W max output power so you don't end up straining the amp driving the speakers (amplifiers distort as well when asked to do too much).

There are plenty of other things to take in to account that will affect how the speaker sounds (ie, cabinet size, etc), but I won't bore you with that side of the subject just now (Dave can do that, it's his job  ).

Yes, you are correct, the speakers would indeed pop at 350W but the Chav`s insist that these stupid figures are put on there.

Realistically, a 4 x 100W amp would be perfect to drive the whole set, front and back

I`ll post up some recommendations later on of a package

It always makes me smile when they start getting all excited over peak power figures, and then someone comes along with a 50W (true RMS) class A amp that blows the so called 500W clean away

I've fitted Infinity Referance in my mig.

6 1/2 in the front doors
Tweeter in the normal place

5 1/4 in the rear doors
Tweeter mounted just below the handle.  If you take off the door card, you will see it has been inscribed into the card.  Cut it out there 

The fronts fit strieght in.
The rears will need a spacer.

The crossover's sit behind the armrest of the door cards.  Just cut out some of the polystyreen 

If yours is a saloon, maybe a pair of speakers in the shelf.
You will need a small amp for this 
Alpine or similar 


Just seen you have a estate like mine 

Maybe a small sub mounted in the side panel of the boot to fill out the bass abit ( Bose fitted one there in the elite  )
