Remote Key Help Wanted Please?
« on: 12 May 2011, 23:05:03 »

Right, here goes...

At the time of writing this post I am very tired, I have looked through the site and probably missed the answer to my question, but...

The 1 and only 3 button remote key that I got with the car is pretty much destroyed. It works fine but is extremely cosmetically challenged, I have ordered off of Ebay from Hong Kong for £3.95 a new shell for the remote, and was wondering if there is a step by step guide or any guides for transplanting the case?

I have done this once before on my 98 R BMW 728 and as a result accidently lost the chip in the remote but luckily had 2 keys for the car at the time. But am petrified of risking this with the Omega as I only have the one key and no money.

Also I know this is a really stupid question but I AM BLONDE lol, How do you get the key and remote apart?

Cheers.

on the other side of the fob from the buttons there's a small 'catch/clip' on the blade side that will split the two halves horizontally. The fob then splits vertically.
The chip lives in the blade bit. :y

Pull the remote from the horseshoe of the key (sometime a small screwdriver is needed to prise), ensuring the that immobiliser chip in Andy B's post above doesn't fly out. Ensure it is there!

Then split the fob only its seal to reveal the circuit board - don't be tempted to pull on the battery connector, as these generally have poor soldered connections, and no mechanical strength!

Refit is reverse method, as they say in Haynes :P

Thanks to the instructions above I successfully re-cased my key fob, and found once I had taken it apart that the unlock button needed moving slightly which I have now done and it sooooooo nice to be able to unlock my car without fighting the fob to press the button!

Here is a piccy of my refurbed fob.
