F/L Elite
« on: 29 May 2011, 09:57:19 »

I have just taken posession of a beautiful 3.2 Elite. I love everything about it, except the computer screen (readouts much too small for aged eyes) and over complicated 'infotainment' system, (its my age you know!). The system is a 2013. What is the opinion as to which is the best/most user friendly system for a F/L? And is it feasible to change the units and computer screen for an 'improved' one.

My MFL Td has a CCRT700 which I like, and the computer is easily operated by the RH stalk buttons, which the F/L doesn't have, although the LH wheel buttons do have similar functions. I also miss the built in phone on the TD, although I do have Bluetooth.

Any comments or suggestions as to a useful upgrade welcome. :y

Telematics are extremely hard to get hold of. If you were keeping your 2013 you would need to get your GID de-paired via TechII (you`ll need the carpass) and the replacement CID would have to be in "delivery" mode, ie de-paired. If you can get both the HU + CID from a donor car then it`s a straight swap out with a few extra cable connections. HU`s and Gid`s, Cid`s & telematics are paired to each other.

I was going to buy that one for mine as he is only 12 miles down the road but they are diffo to the migs, if you want to use one from a Vectra it will have to be from a Vectra B as they are the same. i had a new 2015 fitted to my old elite that i got off the bay of flea and TB did his Tech2 thing and it became a 2013 only two buttons had diffo fronts but all worked OK. The phone part goes in the glove box and is worked by the 2015, don't know if you can turn a 2013 into a 2015 with Tech2 you would have to ask TB. The extra wire that goes into the back of the CID should be in your loom already mine was but i did need a Tech2 fix just to tell the CID what car it was in. All works fine now with the help of the members on here, good luck in finding a CID and you will need a lot of penny's :y :y :o

Thanks guys, I am a bit puzzled as to how a 2015 becomes a 2013, but I believe anything I'm told by the experts.

So I need a 2015 plus screen, is that correct?

Looking At it another way, as I find it easier to explane....

Take a 2015 with screen and telematics. All 3 are "paired" using the security code and tech2.

If you depair the telematics you then have 2013 software on your 2015 head unit. The print on the facia is the only hardware difference, while the software changes the red and green phone buttons function to "home" destination on the sat nav.

The problem you 'll have upgrading to 2015/adding telematics is the loom plug won't be present, and the unit all but fills the glove box. Blutooth is a far easier answer and arguably more convenient.

Having said all that it is possible to have the loom plug added, and hence the telematics unit relocated to e.g. the boot Bose shelf/first aid cupboard/Carin cage.

CID as a good enhancement over the GID. It's more clear and makes the software easier to use. Recommended!

But as said, any CID  unit purchased for retro fitting MUST MUST MUST  be depaired from it's original head unit, and hence in DELIVERY MODE in order be usable! Otherwise it is useless.

Steering wheel controls completely replace the stalk buttons btw, which are no longer needed. Takes a bit of getting used to, but it's far better IMO. Be aware In some modes some steering wheel buttons have no function. ;)
