Can anyone tell me how to access car or engine compartment when the battery is totally flat?. I have tried the key in the locks and while I know you have to be quite forcefull when turning the key, I feel any more force will snap the key in the lock.

Be more forceful and be advised that the doorpin will not necessarily "lift" when door unlocks

Try turning the key side-side with the door handle up, might just surprise you, and dont be too keen seeing the lock go up,sometimes with this method they stay down and still open the door!

If it's a prefacelift you also have the option of crawling through the boot if you can't open the driver's door with the key. Or supplying 12 volts via the boot light.

thanks for the advice chaps. It is pre-facelift however I can't open the boot either so that b-----s up that solution.
I tried the key again with as much force as I dared, almost [ it felt] to the point of bending or snapping the key , which is something I'm worried about. I'll try your suggestion Stallion, hopefully it will do the trick.

boot lock has probably partially seized due to lack of use. Squirt some kind of lub in there & then try.

thanks everybody. I had to work away for the last few weeks, but lubed the locks before I went and, on return,hey presto locks turn.

On the side of that......

Had the AA out to my old p/f/l, due to flat battery & different ignition key barrel to doors which I didn't have the key to (yes i know, idiot!)

Squeezed a plastic crow bar type device into the crack n/s boot/wing join, & prised the boot lid up a little to enable the boot loom to be pulled out through it a short amount. Identified the boot release wire, stripped a little, applied 12v and hey presto the boot opened. crwled in to release bonnet, and ju
