Omega Elite 3.0 2000 - Just about to buy/Audio ??
« on: 12 June 2011, 22:50:43 »

I have wanted an Omgea Elite for as long as i can remember and given the prices now they are just too good to resist. There is a 2000 model in silver with 55,000 miles on the clock near me but the owner says the Bose cd system is displaying a few issue, i want to know if these units can be fixed somewhere ? He says the volume knob does not work (but the wheel one does) and that sometimes the CD refuses to play ??? What do you guys think ?

Someone else of considerably more knowledge than me will surely answer your query about Bose functionality and repairability shortly, but if the playing fault is intermittent, it may well be that previous owners have habitually played rewritable CD's - it is known that this is always bad news for these units, as it knackers the lasers.

Sounds like you'd be better off sourcing a good S/H unit, tbh.... ;)

If it's a 2000 modle it should have a NCDC2013/15 in the car with sat-nav, you can get them now and then. Does he have the car pass for the car as you will need this to have the screen and head unit de-paired with Tech2 unless you can find a paired screen and head unit from another car, but it may still need to go on Tech2. Do you know the problems that are on the unit in the car now, if so post them up and you will have your answer soon. The volume knob thing is not uncommon. As for the CD not always playing it could just need a clean or it could be the optic eye on it's way out.

Cheers for that, i will do, i will be going to see it tomorrow so will know then, i will not use the car that much. I commute on my bike, but when the weather is rubbish i just fancied an easy life, and any way a Honda Firblade is not so safe when the temp drops below 5 degrees C !!!

The fuel economy etc is the big issue but my mileage and haphazard use i think will make it a reasonably sensible option !! especially to get the car i have always wanted.

Driven sensibly, 28 mpg is very achievable.
However, driving them sensibly is nowhere near as much fun as hooning around in them, so that point is a largely academic one  ;D
When you buy it (lets face it, you've already bought it in your head  ;)), be sure to post up some pics in the Gallery... :)

It will either come with CCR2006 or NCDC2013/5.

Although functionality is different, both units are similar in construction and some parts. Volume knob is most likely the knob itself, of the facia board not mating with the unit properly. The intermittent CD is most likely a knackered laser.

Just for the record, my 2000 3.0 Elite (first regd Apr 2000) has the CCR2006 unit without satnav. Don't know when the crossover date would therefore be to the NCDC2013/15.

38 mpg is achievable on the motorway with some 3.0 engines...35 easily...about 30 for mix...round town though expect a lot less
