looking to uprate my music system as one of the speakers rattles and the old cassete is a bit dated now.most head units are now pushing out 40-50 amps as standard[which is enough for me].but the "man"[20 year old kid with spots and has a saxo with subs ,lights etc where the back seat used to be]
says to buy a amp as the sound will be better,and to be fair he wasnt trying to get me to buy one as big as a fridge.
so is a amp worth it in my application which is a normal car with uprated speakers fitted in the standard places,and a new head unit[see i know the lingo now ]or is he trying to con me? and if a amp is a good idea what size should i go for?

An amplified system will generally allow you to reproduce significantly better sounds, so the advice you are getting is correct, and its refreshing to know that the salesman is not trying to palm you off with a mega big amp.

Really depends on budget and what you want to listen to. But before spending out on an amp, I would suggest to listen to a top quality head unit with a matched pair of speakers, as the results can be equally stunning.

She who must be obeyed drives an Astra Cabriolet with a mid range Clarion Head unit (4x50W) and a full set of the Clarion top end fibreglass cone speakers - and the results are awesome - especially when the whole system comes in at under £400

I`ve always said that I can fully understand the attraction of the Omega, Big car, Bulletproof engine, Plenty of Grunt, very pleasant to drive on a long journey, and ultra reliable if you can find one that hasn`t been butchered by Mr Plod -

just doesn`t do it for me and I really don`t like them.

But then, we can`t all of us like all cars, and many of you would be disgusted with my occasional choice of vehicle - and I welcome that also.
