Replacing the laser CDC2013

Optical laser pickup for Opel NCDR1100 NCDC-1300 1500 2011 2013 2015

Optical laser pickup for Opel

- NCDR 1100
- NCDC 1300
- NCDC 1500
- NCDC 2011
- NCDC 2013
- NCDC 2015

for 38 euros + delivery.

My CDC2013 keeps spitting out the Nav CD even though it is a genuine CD, I understand this to be symptomatic of a knacked laser due to the use of the "copied disk" that was in when I got the car.

Question is .... how easy is it to actually change that item....?? I'm reasonable at DIY and have built a few PC's .. working at component levels..... but have little "real" electronics experience, I can solder the odd connection but would run away from soldering a motherboard.

Would taking the unit out, replacing the laser, then replacing the unit have any detrimental effect on the "pairing" of the bits and bobs  ??

Nothing will affect the pairing on the replacement.

The laser swap is fiddly (disassembling the mechanism) but do-able, no soldering as the ribbon cable just clips into the connector. I have three here i've got to do. my test one didn't go too well but was good practice if nothing else.

Once fitted you need to cut a solder tag off the ribbon cable (easy).

I will be doing a guide at some point but need to refine the process before I document it.

That's a tad worrying ... if YOU can get it wrong .. what chance do I have !!!  :( :(

:)

Perhaps I should buy one and wait until you have written the guide before I attack the car !!

My mistake was to try and re-assemble the mechanism when I was tired so managed to catapult one of the springs off never to be found again.

I also manipulated the mechnism full travel to see how it worked....  ::) Opps
