Heater blower not working
« on: 25 July 2011, 17:43:25 »

Hi all, as per the title, the blower has decided to stop working, although now and again is will work fine. Have checked the connections the best i can and it all looks good, but is there a way I can check if it is the fan that is bust or if its the resistor pack. If that makes sense to anyone. The climate panel all works and the fuse for the fan is fine. I took the glove box out and checked the connections on the fan etc and it all looked fine. Put it together again and it was fine until the next day when it stopped again. Have been to Durham this weekend and it hasn't worked at all. Have checked the wiring again but still nothing.
I really dont want to rip the fan out if it isnt the fault and was hoping there is a way to check it first.
Many thanks in advance,

Al

I have both a fan motor and controller in my junk box (and only a couple of miles up the road) if you want to try them?

Does the car have climate control or a manual heater panel?

I should have said.. if you want to test the motor, pull the two wires to the motor out of the speed controller and apply 12 volts to them.

If it's a problem with the speed controller it would probably die never to work again so I would suspect a loose connection or perhaps a dodgy commutator on the motor.

Cheers guys, thought I could just apply 12v accross it but electricery isnt my strong point.
I may just take you up on it Kevin, we are off on holiday in a couple of weeks and (hopefully) will neeed the aircon.
It is climate control if that makes a difference Kevin. Had this fault a couple of years ago and then been fine since, now hasnt worked for a week at all. Will drop you a PM Kevin if I need your address to come and collect the bits to try.
Many thanks   Al
