CID retrofitting in addition to OEM HU
« on: 18 August 2011, 11:26:57 »

Hi guys,
My Omega was fitted with CCRT screen and a Philips CCRT 2006 HU. I have replaced the HU with a Viewtech VT-DGO781 (6,2" display, GPS, DVD, etc.), which has a video output. The question: is there any way to replace my original CCRT screen with a CID to be able to see on board computer readings but also (as an alternative) to display navigation maps on CID? The fact is, that the HU is quite low placed to ensure a comfortable map display. I've noticed from the forum that CID is not working without NCDCx HU. What is the meaning of this? (my CCRT displays now the on board computer readings although the original HU was replaced).

Your MID, or what ever there called on the CCRT 2006, has to 2 functions, Computer and Radio info, so it will still do the Computer calculations with out the 2006 HU.

The second part about fitting a CID to your New HU is really a non starter, it mat be possible to source a Video Monitor from somewhere that may or may not fill the hole if you took your Display out, but then you would lose your Computing and Warning functions.

Are you sure the new HU is a video out and not for Video in, ie reversing camera, if it is video out could be just as a external DVD monitor which may or may not display the Nav.

Chris.

Edit: Just checked the New HU spec, it has an S-Video out. its also post 2004 Astra / Vectra Canbus compatible so it wont comunicate with an Omega.

The OM head unit has AV out, AV in, and a separate rear camera input. I was wondering if a CID might display car's computer calculations (not having a NCDC 201x in place) and by request to display navi maps instead of computer readings. But it looks that nobody did that... Of course I wouldn't replace the present MID with a common LCD. I'm thinking on installing a 6-7" LCD with AV in connection, suspended in front of the central vents. (I'm pretty sure that the OM HU is capable of sourcing map view to AV out).

The CID wont work without the NCDC, and its not a Video type Monitor (Specific the the HU).

The CID has a (almost) VGA in (with a messed about sync), so if you could build an interface...  ...the specs are in the LCD's datasheet, available online in various locations.

The ability to control the Computer functions on it are via CANBUS from NCDx headunit.  That will be far more challenging.

Thank you all. About CANBUS: Up to now, I was told by "experts" that Omega is a "pre Can" car, so no such thing on it. My OEM HU is designed for Signum, Astra H, Vectra C etc, all cars with CANBUS.
You have mentioned "NCDCx CANBUS". So is it possible that Omega has CAN? (My new HU has a CAN interface and works plug&play with Astra H, Vectra C etc, including wheel buttons, but indeed Omega has different connections and seems that no easy driving wheel commands can be arranged).

Omega is not a CAN car, but there are limited, seperate CAN systems on it. One being the NCDC201x/Display/Telematics/CDC3 ring.  But this is not CAN in the same way as Vectra-C, Astra-H etc.

Thank you all for your answers. I'll try to suspend a good, slim secondary display in front of the central vents.
