just got flashed by a camera
« on: 26 February 2008, 21:55:10 »

In Cardiff, I just got flashed by a traffic light camera

There were 2 lanes, I was waiting at a red light, front of que, right hand lane.

Light went to amber, so I prepare to move off, so does the guy in the inside lane. We go on green.

The camera then flashed, twice.

Can't work out why it flashed, or on what basis I'll get a ticket for this?

I intend to dispute if I do get one (is that possible?)

Also, what's the penalty if one of those flash - do you get points? I've currently got a clean licence  :'(

The camera will show the lights, so if you were in the right, you're OK :)

There is a CHANCE we may have gone a FRACTION early  ::)

But I am sure nowhere near to set off a camera, I'm confused why it went off..

If you crossed the line before lights were green, you committed an offence.

Happened to me about 15 years ago. It's a long story but I felt hard done to although I was banged to rights.

Received a summons through the post and got 3 points and £70 fine.  >:(

3 points for a fraction would be harsh - do they not have any discretion?

Can I request to see photographic evidence of me crossing an amber/red light before I cough up the fine?

TBH, I'm sure that camera should not have gone off...

I'm just wondering, as I didn't know the area - I hope that I didn't see a DIFFERENT light go green, and cross a red light thinking it was my turn to go... although I drove through the junction again, and don't see how that could have happened.

As far as i know they either send you a copy or a link to where the photo's are on the net. The latter is how they showed me on a speeding one (talivan) .. never had one for a red light .......  :(

That was my excuse, road was covered in snow and I was unfamiliar with the surroundings. Still got £70 and 3 points, however Cornish magistrates are renowned for being strict. Incidentally, I didn't live in Cornwall at the time.  :(

Two things......

A big white line on the road telling you where to stop, and a red light telling you how long to wait for the GREEN to go.....

Mistime it and expect a £60 donation and 3 points.......

If it was a 747 you were sitting in, waiting to clear an active runway and the pilot decided to go 'a shade' earlier and you were in the firing line for the incoming 747 who decided to chance it by 'running the red' in his direction, what would you like to happen???

These things do seem to get it wrong sometimes. I drove through a set of lights on green once, and saw this huge flash (it was dark). I started getting paranoid thinking maybe it wasn't actually green, there was no other traffic around so it was possible, although extremely unlikely, I had completely misjudged it. Heard nothing about it so seems it was a false flash :-/

Saying that there's loads of them in Edinburgh and I've yet to see one go off falsely.
