Region Board?
« on: 26 February 2008, 19:09:58 »

What about a regions' board as in:-

North, North west, West, South, South west, South East, East etc.

This way we can see who lives where and how many? Thought it might be a bit easier to know where members are in the UK or Abroad.
What do you think?

I would worry that may 'split' the community.

At the end of the day, does it matter where we are based - its an internet forum, and we have global members.  Our location only becomes relevent for meets and if anyone needs a hand  :-/

I agree keeping us all as one big community...  would be nice to be able to see who's in your 30mile radius, it's easier to interchange loans of cam locks for example...  Just a thought, but, no suggestions on how to impliment this..

You could implement something like http://www.frappr.com that would make life easier to see where members are.

There are a few map options around we could use.

For each mod we make to the software, we have to reimplement after each software update or patch, which is quite an overhead.  Assuming we want it integrated to forum of course.

If the demand is there, we will look at doing it :)

Could be viable to ask volunteers to have their details on a print out list, each region could have a contact, we could carry the list in the car... we could then ring the contact in the area if we have car trouble!!

We did this with the granadaenthusiasts.com...  got a few members out of the sh1te,,,,

No need for great expense..

Nice to be one big familly but it would be really handy to see who was nearby for help, plus my geography is awful ! (good on oxbow lakes though!) ;D

Not really need for a poll. If a significant proportion of members post here saying they think its worth us spending time setting it up, thats enough for me :)

What about posting a post to the nature of:-

"Who lives within 30 miles of Stoke-on-Trent?  Please add to the list...etc"

A message on the sign up page could read "Please add your name to you regional list  etc"

Just a thought...

Haven't tried, can you search the members index by County / City or other?????

no, as the entry isn't validated. Some put in Counties, Villages, Towns, or just 'dangle berries' ;D
