ABS Sensors
« on: 28 September 2011, 22:14:57 »

Can anyone explain why I can't get a front ABS sensor from anywhere other than a dealer or a breakers? Looking on line and at motor factors there are sensors available for many cars including Vauxhall, but not the Omega. >:(

Dealer wants £78 for front one.

Rare as rocking horse poo ... :( When I had to replace one ( I broke it, it didn't fail) it was not an easy task. Vx "offered" to order one for me .. special order, pay up front, no idea how long to obtain .... As you say, motor factors uninterested.

I bought a complete 2nd hand hub from a local scrappy .... unfortunately in trying to remove the sensor I discovered how bloody tight a fit they are as I also destroyed that one :(

I was fortunate that one of the guys on here who breaks cars removed a sensor without destroying it and sold it to me. It was fitted VERY CAREFULLY and continues to work :)

So, I suggest you look in the parts section for a breaker, or post a "wanted" ad in the "test" section and ask a moderator to move it to the parts section. You don't have sufficient posts to put your own "wanted" ad up .. :(

.....

If it's any consolation my Dad bought an ABS sensor for his MKIII Granada Scorpio, because symptoms pointed to it. It had to come from Ford and was around £160. Trouble is, it didn't cure the fault.  :'(

I have just removed one.It came off quite easily tbh. Sprayed plusgas all around it, tapped the surrounding metal with anammer, gently levered it out.Thought it would give more trouble than it did.Goint to remove the other one tomorrow, it will probably be stuck fast and snap on the way out. ::)
