Stopping doors closing
« on: 01 October 2011, 18:20:53 »

Is there a way I can stop the doors from closing?

Even on a level road the door wants to close after it’s been fully opened.

The other half is only petite and not very strong, she can’t keep the door open while she gets out. She is getting very humpty about it, waiting for me every time she wants to get out. I can understand that the door feels as heavy as her.

I have the same problem on my door, are all migs the same with the doors?

Do the doors make two or three clonks as they open?  Or are they more or less silent?

Open the door mate, then take a look where the metal door strap goes in the door. You may find that the bolts have pulled through the steel which makes the door heavy and not hold open, it will keep shutting.... The plates can be bought from Vauxhall and there is a How Too which will show and explain step by step how to do the job.
Hope that helps

What Darth Loo-knee said ^^^

Although they generally make a clonking noise at each detent to let you know they are on the way out.

All Migs are not the same as this - they start life fine but the check strap mechanism is a weak point and they tend to get like this unless you do the repair above.  You generally find that the rear doors are still OK because they are used less.  Perhaps you should get your other half to sit in the back for now  ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the info and link.  :y

I see the poster was talking about Haynes manual, I didn’t think they done one for the mig year 2000?

I think I’ll have to take it to a garage to have the job done, all my tools went when my other car got nicked and I’m really not up to par for working on it.  :(

Got any ideas what it would cost to have 2 doors done?
